Hey Everyone,

I went ahead and purchased the downey rear springs, bilstein hd shocks and OME stearing stab. I have finished the front and it changed the attitude of the 93 4Runner like 200%. Before the truck would shimmy like crazy even at around 30mph. Now, it pretty much holds a straight line.

My question is... since I never owned a truck before, how do you release the spare tire from under the truck? I want to do the rear shocks and springs tonight, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is an extension rod and handle in the jack bag. One end with a hook. This hook goes just above the bumper into the crank above the spare tire. Crank it down. It is held up by a cable. You see, look above your bumper in the center and you'll see what I'm talking about. Sorry no, pics!

Under your backseats should be a metal rod, this goes into the center hole on your bumper, all you do is crank it counter clockwise until you have enough slack released to remove your spare.

This should be all that is needed to remove your spare for the 2nd gens though its been a while since Ive seen one..

I'm guessing that the jack is in the same place on your 93' as my 96'. Get ou your jack from under the passenger side rear seat and take the bar that you use to trn and lift the jack,take it and stick it in the little slot/hole above the rear bumper. Wait till it catches and then start cranking, you will see the spare tire start to drop from the rear. Hope that helps, and it's not to late. Good luck, and take pictures.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the input, I do appreciate it. I will try to get the rear shocks and springs in tonight and will take some picture. Any hints/advise on the rear shocks? It looks like a pain to get to the top nut. I have a spring compressor, so the springs do not look like a big deal.

While you're down there, might as well extend your rear differential breather. If you need a Type R diff, email me or Mertztr (Tom) for it. Tom is the Bay Area rep for this part. The HP gains will amaze you---ask around!

Now I don't even know if you're full of it...you guys are brutal. MChan - No HP from the breather - although a TRD sticker is another matter entirely...

I did get better gas mileage when I put the TRD valve stem caps on my tires. Tire wear is much more even now as well.

Anyone got any 120 grit sandpaper for the scratches I need to get rid of?

In all seriousness, you should do the rear diff breather mod. Who knows when or where you might have to cross a deep puddle from a broken water main or a creek bed. You'll just be glad that you did it.

The time spent will be about 2 hours, even for a newbie.

The parts: any Toyota dealership or an online parts store. I patronize partznet.com b/c they've been good to me since my first order. The parts alone won't break the bank.
