NEWBIE HELP: body lifting a double cab truck

hello! i'm new to this thread. i live in the philippines and i don't have much access to information or techniques on body lifting.

heres what i have so far. 96model 2wd pickup i've lifted the front TB about 2inches and the rear leafs about 2.5inches. i'm currently using 235/75/15 tires. a friend of mine upgraded his tires and gave me his 31x10.5 tires. i tried to fit the tires on my rims but they keep on hitting the steering gearbox and possibly other parts that i dont know of. i borrowed a set of 15x8 rims with a -30 offset. that solved the problem of the tires hitting the gearbox. after 2days i hit a large pothole and the front tires hit the lower portion of the front bumper and also the fender. so now i'm back on the sissy rims..!

somebody told me that i needed to get a body lift. browsing the internet has lead me to the 4crawler site and a lot of other sites including this one. from what i've seen/researched so far, i was able to machine a set of body lifts from nylon enforced industrial plastic. i made it about 1.5inches long.and also a steering column spacer.

here's my problem. from all the information i've read, nobody seems to have had any problems with the gas filler tube. on my truck, the top of the filler tube is bolted to the body. i don't see any space for movement when i lift the body. can somebody give me info on this? is the tube expandable? is the gas tank attached to the body or to the frame? right now i'm thinking that if i raise the body i might break or bend the filler tube or if i loosen the screws the tube might sink inside the hole.. somebody please help!! i'm getting a really big headache!! lol! i just want to put those 31inch tire in!!

thanks guys!

you might be able to get some really good info on this toyota forum right here:

not sayin that you wont get the info you need here, but there are a few differences between us models and others
