Newbe here! I have Questions

First of all I would like to say hello to all of you fellow yotatech people. It seems like a great place to get help on all sorts of topics so thats why I'm here! Second I think I have a slight problem... my truck is the one listed in my sig and seems to have a very low and rough idle sometimes. I increased the idle a little bit to see if that would help and it didn't really cure the problem. When I first got the truck 1 year ago I talked to the service guy at my local toyota dealer and he said my throttle body might need to be cleaned. If any of you guys had this problem could you please tell me how to cure it is driving me crazy! Thanks

One thing I noticed is that my truck idles really slow when it is hot and as a result i have to back out the adjustment screw in the summer to boost my idle up to 700 or 800 rpm.

Instead of trying to pin point the problem, If I were you I would do an all out tune up and just take care of all the possiblities.

-Spark plugs
-Spark plug wires
-Cap and rotor
-Fuel filter
-Clean your K&N
-Change your oil (synthetic)
-Take off your Throttle body and clean it

While your throttle body is off you can take off your plenum and clean it and while it's off replace the pcv valve and clean out the intake manifold. (this is considerably more difficult than the things listed above).

It did before I replaced my throtle body! The door was worn and it was letting air leak past! If everything is if good working order it should idle smooth at 500 rpm. Definetly clean and check the trotlle body to make sure is is closing compleetly and sealing well. I waised abour $500 trying to figure out a idle problem before I found out I just needed to get a $60 junkyard throtle body!

Yea, good idea. I would also recomend an Oxigen sensor if it's never been replaced. This changed the way my truck ran and I got about 2 MPG better gas milage.

To clean the throtle body, just take that big hose off that runs over your radiator. All you need is a screw driver. Then you have access to the door which you can clean with a rag. I forget what type of cleaner you are alloud to use but as an auto part store. They will know. It sould take you less than half an hour.

You might also run some injector cleaner through it.

My truck had the same problems. Adjusting the timing fixed it.

I agree with everyone else. Do all of the tune up and cleaning, use SENSOR SAFE cleaner . Check the timming. Change the 02 sensor. Check and adjust the TPS. Get yourself a good repair manual, if you don't have one. If you don't understand something just ask, we all are here to help each other. My truck was doing something like what you are describing and it turned out to be bad plugs and wires. When you replace the plugs only use the NGK or Denso plugs they work the best.

Oh by the way Welcome to YT!!
