NEW! Moble 1 0w-30 full synthetic

Has anyone tried the new Moble 1 0W-30 oil? It sais that it will give you better gas milage while protecting as well as a 5W-30 or 10W-30. I was thinking about tring it on my next oil change.

Any thoughts?

I notice your in 808. You don't need a multi-grade oil there unless you plan on driving to the top of mauna kea where it can get really cold. There also a little more expensive too the straight weights. Just use a straight weight oil, like 30wt mobile 1 and you'll be fine.

If you consider 0-30 why not get 0-40. a better broader range of protection.

0Wx weight works well apparently if you are starting on cold winter morning in northern Canada. I don't think its the right choice for Hawaii.

I wouldn't normaly think to use a 0w oil in Hawaii but, it claims to protect and lube as well as 10W-30(actually exceeding manufacter recommend 10W-30) While saving gas. Gas is over $4/gal here for regular.

I feel your pain! LOL Just went up another $0.10 the other day. We're at $4.35 now.... I just changed plugs and wires today and I think I can feel that's it's much smoother from 40-60 mph. The last guy had Bosch Platiums in there before. Went back to NGKs.... I'll keep track of MPG again and see if there's a diff.

0w30 is fine for hawaii, the 0w only mean his oil will get to actual working temp faster than 5w and 10w's.. so run it with confidence..btw after your first OCI at 5k miles, run one more at 5k miles and have a UOA done on the oil. it will show you how well or how not well its not working... also 0w40 will work very well in hawaii also.. 0w30's would suite really good for cold climates

I'd just stick with 5w-30 or 10w-30. I guarantee you will not see an increase in MPG's from switching to 0w-30.

0w-30 won't give you any advantage over 5w-30 in warm climates. You MIGHT notice a slight increase in mpg with say a 0w-20 or 5w-20, but it wouldn't be worth the risk of running a thinner oil than your owner's manual calls for.

X2 on the UOA its the only way you will know for sure. 0wt oil flows better when cold, then when its hot they all flow close to the same. You want flow, especially at start up when its most critical

We have Mobile 1 0w-30 in 55 gal drums for our new forklifts. I broke it down and it would be cheaper for us to buy it in quarts.

Oops... But just think, you'll have that nice drum afterwards.

Nothing new about it, either. I've been running M1 0W-30 in my vehicles for a couple of years, now.

I guess it's just a new marketing stratige with a new GREEN lable. It does claim to save gas on the lable(I know, don't believe everything you read).
I saw it at wallmart.

I check out Moble Ones site and compaired the 0W30 and the 5W30 EP, both are the same thickness at operating temps.

there you go.. have at it.. did you check 10w30? i remember looking last year and the 10w30 M1 was a tiny bit thinner at running temp than 5w30.. kinda wierd.

From the reading Ive done seems like there is no difference of 0w and 5w at 40 C (104 F). Since most peoples oil wont be that warm at startup the 0w should provide slightly better protection at cold start, and the same at operating temp. The colder the temp the better the protection of 0w at cold start.

It does get that cold here in KS, my runner is garaged at night but at work its just waiting to head home. With 152K I want to extend my engine life as much as possible so come fall I will be switching to 0w and sticking with it.

I summarized this post on Motor oils scientific review by AEHaas
I did fix his 0° C = zero F mistake. ... 0°C == 32°F == freezing != 0°F
