New hood w/scoop on 3rd gen
I am planning on getting a hood w/scoop from the dealer or online sometime in two months. I have a 2000 4runner sr5. What I need to know is what hardware do I have to get to install the hood? I searched the forums, but the part numbers are not current. If there is anything I can transfer from the old hood that would be great. I want to know all the part numbers, so I can go into the dealer knowing exactly what I need. It always takes longer when the dealer has to look it up on the computer. one more question, should I get the dealer to paint the hood, or find a bodyshop? Thanks!

I know there's a thread around here somewhere with all the parts and #s you need. I think Bamachem posted the info.
I wanted the scoop so bad I went out and bought the the rest of the truck along with the hood.

here's a link to a cheap hood but you'll still need the scoop pieces and of course painted but for $130= shipping isn't a bad start.

Yea I saw a thread with all the part numbers on it, but some of them were not up to date. Can you please give a link to the thread you are talking about, maybe its one I havent looked at yet. The reason I want to go to the dealer informed is so they dont rip me off, if I dont need to buy the hinges, I dont want to,lol, but the dealer would probably say that I need to. Same with all the other parts

I think I put about $800 when it was said and done. They can use the old hinges, but that's about it. I say "yes" on getting the chrome away.
Can't wait for the pics.

Yea the only chrome Im getting rid of is the bumpers, I like the toyota badges, they dont look that bad on the silver paint. On 4runners with color keyed bumpers, is the grey trim on top painted too? Im surprised chrome is an upgrade by toyota, I would think color keyed bumpers would be the upgrade.

On my '99 everything is painted except the plastic trim on the top and bottom of the front bumper and my flares are the flat black plastic ones, painted Limited flares showed up the next year on the SR5s.
In '00 everything is painted up front but the badges on both years are left chrome or the optional "tinted" badges.

Hood was ~$300 from the dealer. Plan on another $140 for the other "stuff". Just the "bulge" is $110 (plastic piece that fills the hole in the metal hood). You only NEED the following in addition to the hood:
nuts (4) 90179-06324
cushions (4) 90540-05028
rivets (2) 90269-04054
bulge 76181-35901
guide 76182-35020
plate 76192-35010
For highlanders, the grill was painted just like on the sports. like x-aw said, they eventually got fat flares like the limited's, but w/o the body cladding. if you paint the bumper, then paint the entire thing and NOT just the chrome. it will look WAY better that way. also, if you're having the bumpers painted, then make sure to get the ugly grey tag surround color-matched as well. since your runner is millenium silver, then just order the silver sport grill for it and sell your chrome one on ebay. the silver grill will run you $110 online + ~$10 shipping. you can get at least $80 if not $100 for your old grill on ebay. besides, the paint won't stick to the plastic good and it will eventually crack and peel if you paint it.

Do some research at a couple paint shops about the paint adhering to plastic that's aged a bit since I'm sure I'd have to replace the plastic trim with new pieces and have them painted since my front end has 90k of crap hitting the front bumper and I would't bet paint would stick to it.
