True I've mainly worked with VATS and assumed most newer systems haven't changed much, but if one were to jack a vehical would you go for the older Corvette or the newer 4Runner.? The real point is if it's gonna be jacked it's gonna be jacked, but we are getting off the topic (My Bad). I do believe profuse007 your correct on programing as many keys as desired, although a mechanic at the local stealership indicated after 10 the 11th one replaces the 1st. I don't think I'd need any more than a few, in any event keep us posted on your success fireteacher.

all turned out GREAT. you must ensure that you have a master key prior to performing prior to cutting keys. to do this, get in your runner, shut the door and the security light should be blinking, insert key but dont turn it, if the light stops then you have a master. if it dosnt, you have a valet key.. or i guess you could just try to lock the g-box!!

anyhow, it was like the previous post with out all the windows up, starting and blah blah....

after verification of a master key, cut the new blanks.
-sit in runner door closed and insert original master key...security light stops blinking, do not turn it to the ACC or ON poss.
-fully depress gas pedal 5 times
-fully depress brake pedal 6 times
-remove master key and insert new blank
-press gas pedal one time
-light should start blinking for about a min
-when it stops, remove key and depress brake once to close the cycle.
-10 seconds later try to start the car!!!!

it needs to be done fast, i tried it at a liesurly pase the 2nd time and it didnt work. go FAST!!!

2 aftermarket keys on ebay shipped:$38.99
2 keys cut at ace hardware: $4.63
6 pack of beer cause you though it would take a while: 5.99
10 minutes of your own time: FREE
NOT having to go to the dealer and bend over...PRICELESS!!!

Have fun doing this.....I tried it repeated it several times.....nothing, followed every step, even went to raping stealership to verify instuctions...(they wanted to know where the instructions came from, but yes they verified they were correct) ALL THAT HAPPENED WAS THAT THE BLANK KEY WAS CUT CORRECTLY AND THE CODE CHIP WAS IN THE KEY BUT THE CHIP READER WAS NOT RECONIZING THE CODE.....PLUS IT WIPED OUT ALL OTHER KEYS THAT WERE PROGRAMED....EXCEPT THE MASTER KEY...still had to have the stealership program ALL keys at once.....$48.76 including tax...
but still cheper than buying trasponder key from them......GOOD LUCK

Just bought a 99 that came with one key. It's either faded black or its grey. Anyways, it passed this test. Can someone confirm for me that this is true about the security light thing. Some threads say it stops blinking, some say its solid for a few seconds then turns off with a valet.
Thanks

I just got another 2 keys from this guy on ebay: http://stores.ebay.com/MyKeyless

And it worked great. Just find your model on there. I got 2 for my 00 4runner and it worked perfect. Took about 10 mins to program and since i had them cut at the dealer with the offical key pattern (and not my worn down key) they work better that the stock keys.

As for if the light should go off right away, yes a master key will turn it off right away. And you have to have a master key to program it.

My 4runner only came with one key and it's a valet, not the master. Anyone know what I have to do to get extra keys? I bought one from the dealership before I knew there was such things as masters and valets. Of course, I can't program this new key although it has been cut by the dealership.

Help! The dealership says I have to get a new ecu.

You should not need a new ECU but it will cost some $$ to get it reprograms unforchunetly.

They should be able to do it at the stealership but they will charge you for it. Now on some cars you do have to get a new ECU but i don't know it Toyotas are one of them as those are quite rare.

I bought a extra key off ebay as well, it works fine, took me a few times to get the programming down. Only problem I had was getting it cut, a few locksmiths gave me ˟˟˟˟˟ because is was a chipped key, I finally just took it to home depot and the cut it for free.
