Need help, my runner won't start

My 98 4runner been having problem starting for the past 2 month. I usually need to crank the ignition 4-5 times before i could get it to turn. I've been putting it off and now it bit me in the a$$. Now it would just click, click, click everytime I try to start. I just installed a new battery too, hoping it would be the fix.

The previous owner installed the remote starter which I never got it to work so never used it. Any suggestion for me to could get it started so I could take it to the mechanic is mucho appreciated.

Kev

Is there any chances a remote starter going bad will cause the car not to start? If so, any way to disable the remote starter?

I figured also, my starter is shot. But I only have 112K on it.

i dont think its the remote start gone bad but usingmay have taken its toll on the starter. i too have one and had to replace my starter and i heard that they can cause a bit of wear on the starter. i would keep it still though if you live in the cold or extreme heat as i dont believe the impact is that great on it.
mine did the same thing as yours did and i need a new starter. its a PITA to DIY IMHO (lot of acronyms!) but it can be done. the stealer quoted me 300 to do it. so theres your ballpark price range. i cannot re: what i paid for the part. there are write ups here on how to do it though.
good luck and hope it helped!

Thanks for the info. I'm a geek with computer not with a car. So, I will try taking a hammer to the starter and if that doesn't work, I will have it tow to a local mechanic. Might as well put my AAA membership to good use.

I'll keep you guys updated as to the fix.

sounds like you burned up the contacts inside the starter, you can get replacement parts, much cheaper than replacing the entire starter.

It's actually quite easy to remove the starter........

BTW you probably burned the contacts to the point where smacking a hammer against it won't do a thing, your better off just taking a screwdriver and manually shorting across the terminals.
