My Sulfur Smell is gone
Was out and put the rear window down to see if the sulfur smell was still their and after many miles of WOT driving the smell was not their at all, I could feel the exhaust heat but no sulfur, I was very excited cause my friends with drop tops I always felt guilty when I took off in front of them.
Truck has 7300 miles, Im averaging 14mpg with a very heavy foot and using Mobil 87.
Guess it just needed time to break in, now if I could get a better seal for the rear doors

Congrats Edge
I have never had a smell with mine.
I guess all us 4th Gen guys got had.
Since I also owned and drove a second gen for almost six years I can say there is NO, NONE WHATSOEVER,comparison between the two. The 4th gen outperforms in EVERY way
Get a grip guys. Change can be difficult.

beans are now out of season!
Got on it twice last week with the rear down, yes, the obnoxious fart has finally occurred in mine. :pig: Talk about a baby pig.

Never had the sulfer smell.
Only problem is my front seat track jiggles slightly sometimes- gotta fix that (tsb).
Oh yeah, and the fact the 4th gen totally sucks. I don't know how I'm going to make it through the next decade.

I still have the smell, I have 11k+ on mine... I've tried generic gas, Amaco (BP), and am using Shell now (because they have those sighns out that say "Better MPG."*
I guess I'll try Exxon, since we don't have Mobil and they are the same company.
*FWIW: I am actually getting better MPG with the Shell brand, by like .2

Im averaging 14mpg so if and when I put the SC on I'll probably be getting 10mpg with it but thats what I get when I drive like Im pulling out of a pit stop although it does hit 19-20 on the highway, but the old man was right a V8 has 2 more cylinders which drink more

I think it may be the Catalytic Converter or exhaust burning itself in.

Sac:
I'm hoping that it is break in time, but from what JGage said it may not be.
I don't have any smell, at least not from the exhaust. I always have my truck running when I let my dog in and out. I have yet to smell anything from the exhaust. He also insists that I put the rear window down when we drive so he can check out the girlies. We put roughly 130-170 miles on it a day. No exhaust smell then either.
FYI: I have been using Hess Premium with an Octane rating of 93 since day one. Every other tank I use STP fuel treatment and occasionally throw in some Marvels Mystery Oil.
I don't know if that (octane rating) matters or not though!

I get the smell too, but only when I accelerate hard with the rear window open.
The sulfur is from the base gasoline not the additives. How much sulfur is in the gas depends on where it came from. All the gas stations get the same base gasoline, it is just the additives that are different.

My 2003 4Runner is having the same problem. Everyone keeps telling me its the catalytic converter but no one can seem to fix it. My dealer told me to just chagne gas, but that doesn't make the problem go away. He also said not to roll my windows down. Whatever! ANywyas, I have 14000 miles on my car, and haven't found a gas that doesn't make the smell. Let me know if you have any suggestions.,...other than change gas.
