mods for azrocks
hey everybody. I saw a thread the other day about AZRocks and how it is coming up in I believe march. I dont live that far away really and was thinking about joining in on the fun. but i have some questions...
right now on my truck, the only items i have for off road performance are some bigger springs in the back and some 31 inch a/t tires. along with a new front bumper that will help with protection. i plan on spending 2k or so in the next 4 months(or about the time until AZrocks) and was curious on what you guys think would be worth buying before hand. i plan on getting the new aussie locker soon, unless you guys suggest otherwise. i have been thinking about some sliders and a new back bumper, just depends. i can buy quite a lot of stuff for 2k so i want to spend it properly. i need new longer back shocks for more travel, a cb radio, high jack lift, all that stuff, so i want you guys to tell me what i should buy..i know its my money, but you guys have done it all..what should i do, and i really am thinking about going to this so please tell me what you think. let me know! i want it to be worth my time and money:smile:items include off road enhancements, and tools along with parts that i should bring a long. thanks for the help. ~KyLe

A locker and protection and mandatory mods for a truck that will see trail time.
Depending on how you do it, that could eat a lot of the budget, but would get you onto 4's pretty solidly.

Sliders, lift, rear locker and aggresive tires will get you through quite a few trails in AZ. You might ding the bumpers a bit, but it happens. Go crazy on old junk if you want, but if it's your DD, don't spend more than you won't recoup on resale. No soccer-mom wants or needs 35's, F&R lockers, body damage, etc.

Well, in reality, you're not asking the right person.
My guess would be perhaps a real locker, perhaps some sliders, an ARB/TJM bumper for added front protection, even some SAWs...
There are many people that can direct you to the right direction.
It also depends what type of trails you're talking about.

Yup there you go man.
Two people somehow managed to respond before I did, and ironically enough, suggested about the same mods as I did.
I guess I am not too far off, after all.

Are the bumpers you're talking about included in your 2000 budget? That may eat up alot of it.
At least get a locker and some sliders, how are your tires?

Holy smokes I didn't know AZROCKS was that hard core!
Looks like what we used to mountain bike back when I lived in AZ.
Statin to miss the heat as winter sets in up here.

I've love to go down there to AZrocks this year too. Here's what I would get if you wheel a lot with your 4runner:
1) Rear automatic locker
2) Front ARB locker
3) Rock Sliders
4) Full Skid Plates
That should be right around your $2K mark. If I knew I was going to get into wheeling again as much as I have, I would have done it over again on this 4runner, never bought the S/C and fuel mods, and spent all that money on the above. Of course after that front and rear bumpers are a must too, especially the rear.
Chris
P.S. How can I find out about the exact details for the trip this year to AZrocks? Who puts it on?

What sort of tranny have you got?
Best bang for the buck would be:
-E-locker in the rear for $300
-Sliders for $300
-Rear bumper for $1000
-Belly skid for $350
That would have you in under budget.
The front locker is not imperative if you are open in both ends now.
Rear bumpers add some piece of mind on approach and departure of steep obstacles.
AzRocks was a TTORA event last year, as the thread says. Steve took out some runner only folks that were there as well.

There were a variety of trails run last year, something for everyone. We had completely stock trucks doing some runs and a convoy of SA trucks doing others, plus everything in between.
There is something for everyone, regardless of ability level and build out.
Sliders and skids are a good bet in the rocks, then lockers, etc.
Protect what you got, then make it better.
That video is from the easy to moderate trails. I have some photos from the more hadcore runs that would make your jaw drop
