i have ran 10w-30 mobil one since i have owned my truck (bought in 02) change oil between 7k and 8500 miles running open cone air filter and wheelin in very dusty trails in 115 degree summers and cant seem to get the mobile one to come out black. my headgasket blew at 155,000 miles and mechanic said the bottom halph of the engine looked like it had 50 miles on it. I swear by fully synthetic oil. I run it in tranny, transfer case and f/r diffs and engine.

god damn ive been runing on 10w30 high milage mobile one oil for 3 years and i really dont know if theres a difference ,but damnit this stuff aint cheap.$$$

I've been running Amsoil Series 2000 0W-30 synthetic (Amsoil filters also) for five years now with great results. I change the oil once per year (I put on about 15-17K miles/yr) with a filter only change at 6 months (although with their new EA filter I should be able to go all year on one filter). When I drain my oil after a year it looks remarkably clean (the best indicator of a sound engine with excellent lubrication). Gone are the days of changing everything every 3000miles and looking at dirty dark black dino coming out the drain plug. I save time, the $ spent is about the same if not a little less, and I get the benefits of the best lubrication available all year long. <No I am not an Amsoil dealer, just a long time user sharing real world results. Mobile1 is an excellent oil also, and if you are using a top of the line filter like the Amsoil EA filter you should get similar results.> I also run 100% Amsoil in my wifes Solara, her Harley Sportster, and my Kawasaki Nomad with similar results.

my oil gets black by 3k miles and i get 21-23 highway miles too.. some truck run dirtier than others i guess.. i use purolator filters and change them frequently..

Mobil 1 does awesome in the used oil analysis in Toyota engines. I've done lots of reading on the Bob is the Oil Guy forum. My next 4Runner change is going to be sent off for analysis as well. I believe Amsoil does equally well, I'm switching to 0W-30 for my next oil change however...

My rig has 130k on it, but I've been wanting to run synthetic. Is there any issue with changing now?

In all my reading in the Used Oil Analysis forum Mobil 1 has done really well in Toyota V6 engines so I have no worries about using it whatsoever. I only put 4-6k miles on my 4Runner every hear so I needed an oil that would hold up to 7-8 month OCI. I've got a new UOA on the way for my current run with Mobil1.

I used to run the BMW 5W-30 in my 4Runner, I did so for years because the Catrol they were using was from Germany, a couple of years ago it switched to oil from the US of A so stopped using it all together.

I have used Mobil 1 syn, Valvoline Syn, Ford Syn-blend, Amsoil Syn, Royal Purple Syn and Castrol GTX. When you drive a car for a while, you get used to how it runs and idles. My cars have always felt the smoothest with Amsoil Syn, Valvoline Syn and Mobile 1 Syn, Amsoil being my favorite (I was running it in a built/forged 4.6 Mustang revving to 7k regularly). I always notice a considerable difference with a full synthetic oil, no regrets.

most oils conventional or syn run well in these motors lol... post your UOA on the mobile 1 syn here and bitog.. i would like to see it too. how many miles are you running it?

Thanks for that info! I will have to send my oil there as i just got it and i want to make sure that everything is A OK in there. The oil is a little dirt after changing to mobile 1 last change a few months ago for a 1000 mile trip towing a trailer.

I will post it when I get the results back. I am running my oil for 4,000 miles or 1 year. Believe it or not that's all I put on my 4Runner is 4-5k miles/year, highway miles for recreation use.

conventional oil. i go w/ OEM spec, 5w30 4000-5000 miles change.

i believe in competitive market in america, everything improve over the years.

i wonder how long you can run mobile 1 syn 5w30 with ome filter or purolator before the oil gets a lot of contaminants... my guess from what i have read before dont go over 7k with the same filter..

I've never really studied up on the durability of filters, but just like anything, if you force liquid through it under pressure it will break down. You can get OEM filters for $2.50/each so it makes sense to just change it when the oil is changed. If only Toyota would have made it a bit easier to access in regards to the mess it makes.

yeah i drop the bottom skid plates when i change the oil. after a fewtimes you learn to do it fairly fast. plus i can inspect the under body like boots and check for leaks. i dont mind it.... anyone here do a UOA on mobile 1 syn 5w30 in their 3.4's?? i am curious to see the results.. from what i have seen on bitog Mobile 1 syn isnt all that and a box of crackers lol..

I switched over to mobile 1 and a high-capasity mobile 1 filter (it is model M1-209 if anyone wants to know.)when i got my 4runner. and so far it seems to run better and no ill effects. (only driven on a long towing trip so far. will have to see what it does normal driving now...

Mobile One, like other synthetics, has a very high flash point at which the oil cooks off. Your daily driver never reaches that point so in theory the oil will live forever. Realistically, blowby can dilute the oil. Truckers tell me they run the oil 100,000 miles with regular filter changes. To support that idea, we never changed any aircraft engine or gearbox synthetic oil unless the oil sample showed elevated contamination in the lab analysis. Personally, I change mine once a year because the motors are old. Not running synthetics will cost you much more than the oil as your engine ages. Stuck rings, sludge, wear on moving parts, sticking hydraulic lifters, etc will occur with dyno oil if not changed about every 3,000 miles. Do the math and you will find that synthetic oil is a great value.

if i were to continue buying mobile 1 syn 5w30 i would probably change the oil every 5-7k miles on the same filter. i may switch to a blend or maybe even gtx regular 5w30 and stick with just 5k mile intervals. i drive 30-35k miles a year.
