I highly recommend a stethoscope, I just tried one and it's amazing. For $12 no tool box should be without one. My noise is coming from the fan (bearing) housing.

Mine made that noise.Timing belt idler pulley.Also had a cracked water pump seal.I thought it was just a belt making the noise.I took all of them off and it still made the noise.Noise travels thru metal realy well and its sometimes hard to find the source.
