his loan is through an auto loan company called up2drive, I called them. They said i have to be approved for a loan, then they will send me the paper work, then me and him have documents to fill out, then i can just write up2drive a check for the full amount and they will pay him the difference. The only problem is that we don't want to send in the final paperwork until I am sure i want to buy the truck. after we send in the paperwork it might take a few days before it is all processed and I can write a check.
so I am looking at 2 things,
1. Go look at the truck, if i decide i want it. we fill out the paper work. then i go home without the truck. when all the paperwork is processed, i write a check, when he gets the money and i get the title i drive back up and pick up the truck. so drive 100miles to go look at it, drive back home another 100miles. then about a week later drive 100 miles to go pick it up, then drive it back home another 100 miles. Meanwhile i don't have a vehicle i trust to go that far, so i will have to find someone to drive me both times.
2. I write him a check for the difference if he will let me drive it home that day. then it will just sit in my driveway for a week or two until i get the title. I only end up driving 200 miles for the truck instead of 400 miles. I'm hoping he will do this, it will be so much easier

yeah the third owner thing makes me wonder, carfax said something about commercial use, so it may have been a demo at a dealership or something. He says he has all the documents from all services since he has owned it. None the less i am going to look it over real good, because if there are scratches or dents or worn out brakes, or tires, or things like that I am gonna use the to try and talk him down a little. If it looks like it has been in a wreck and fixed i'm not even gonna buy it. But more than likely that would show up on the car fax

up2drive said my only option right now is to write a check for the bank they use, and give it to him, but i still have to trust him to sign the title over to me after he pays it off.

well heres the plan as of now
i go look at the truck
if i want it i am going to write him a check made out to the bank that has the title
i am going to type up a contract for him to sign basically stating that when he receives the title he will sign it and mail it to me (my mom is a notary so no problems there)
the i will drive the truck home that day and it will sit until i get the title
seems like a plan right?

That doesn't sound too bad. At some point you need to have a little Faith in ppl. Not everyone is out to scam you. You should be able to judge for yourself once you meet the seller and see the truck. There are scammers out there just just be causious. Hopefully you come out ahead and score yourself a new truck. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

well i got it, its pretty clean, there is a small dent on the bedside, and a small spot of rust where the paint has chipped on the cab, other than that it runs and drives really good

i'm porbably not gonna do much to it this year, but i'm thinking 3 in lift, 31x10.50's, a black brush guard and some black wheels. one of my finds is a body guy, so i'm probably gonna have him buff it to get any scratches out
thanks, i looked at the new ones, but i just didn't like the way the wheel wells were shaped, to me that ruined the whole look of the truck
