look what I got for $300

82 Toyota pickup for $300. I guess the engine runs but it's not great need work. It's a carbed engine anyway so I guess I am planning on swapping an EFI one in there. The frame is solid but the bed is rusty. It has 33x12.50 Kumho MT's on it and a 4" suspension lift and semi new procomp ES3000 shocks not a bad find for $300.
It turns out it's a buddy of mine's g/f's old truck they sold it 6 years ago for $3400. He told they put some patches on the frame which are still way solid. Iit had a engine put in it that had 70k on it back when they had it. It has 144,000 miles on it currently.
Anyways so now I know the history of it and what it needs now which is cool.

Some pics

Just throw a weber carb on it and rebuild the engine and call it gravy. Why do a pricey engine swap on a $300 truck? Then wheel it till it explodes, because you won't have much money dumped in it to make you regret breaking it.

It looks like a fun truck!

that's a smoking deal i absolutely love first gen 4x4s...i might consider buying another one after i finish some stuff on my '79

i have most of the drivetrain from an '82 that i'm getting ready to swap into my '79 very shortly...

carbed 22Rs can wheel pretty good, with a few carb adjustments and mods you can have something that runs very well on inclines. an EFI swap would be cool, though quite involved. webers are overrated. a 32/36 actually has a SMALLER CFM than a stock 22R carb, though it's much better than a 20R carb. most guys just replace a worn out carb with a new weber, and say how much better it runs...DUH! you just replaced a worn carb with a new one!

Well yes this one already has a weber carb and a k&N element on it.
I am not even gonna waste my time trying to get it running right. The headgasket is gone on this old motor and who know's what else it needs.
I am going to swap in a EFI motor and get the harness and gas tank and call it a day. I can get a running 22RE motor and harness and gas tank from the local yard I plunder for about $250.
The nice part is mine is already lifted on 33x12.50's all I need now is lockers and gears. My friend will be building me a metal flatbed for it this winter for about $400-500. In the meantime while it's not running I will be cleaning the frame and doing some rust repair before it gets too cold to do so.
The Kumho MT tires on it are ok and should get me through the winter.
Tax refund time next year I will likely get some 33x13.50 swampers LTB for it and that's likely when I will get lockers and gears for it too.

Wow, nice find. If I ever start wheeling a little more often and want a trail-only rig, something like that would be ideal.

Ok so I'm likin the new (old) rig. 1st thing I'd do is lose that dead weight tail gate (since it's obviously the wrong one) and get a net for the bed. I've never liked the flat bed look. who cares about the rusty bed since it's gonna be a crawler anyway? Yes rippin out the old dead motor for an efi set up sounds good to me. I'd be surfin ebay for a header to go with it.

best of luck bro

Crap,

I just traded in my 95 4runner on a shinny new Xterra. I would have given you $600 easy, and saved those monthly payments.

It really is unique.
