hi everyone
im a former jeep guy of many years. heres a couple of pics of what i use to have.



anyways i recently sold my wrangler and got an 02 4runner sport. my main question is lifting. being in the blood i want more aggressive tires and a mild lift. what can i fit or what would be better,cheaper, and cause less problems.... 31's or 32's, 270/75's, 275/70's, or 285/75's?

of course the bigger the tire the better but i dont want to worry about d-line vibes,chamber problems, regearing, or and misc crap. basically just a easy cut and dry lift. i have heard of some type of factory pinch weld that could cause rubbing but i heard it could be beaten down.

could i go 2.5" spacer lift and get any of the said tire sizes?
could i go as simple as the 1" body and get any of these?

265/75r16 should fit stock with none or minor rubbing. 285's you need 2.5" lift and quite a bit of trimming, or that plus a 1" bl and a little rubbing. i have 295's 2.5ish lift and 1" body lift, and i still need to trim more when it stuffs in the front.

as far as spacer vs coil lift, it depends on what you are going to do, off road, definately check out a coil lift, mild off road mostly on road, the spacer lift would probobly work fine.

I went for the full coil lift for maximum off road performace out of the IFS.

its mostly on road with the occasional off road adventure but nothing to serious. i mostly got the toyota for cargo space, comfort, and speed. the exact opposite of my old wrangler.

next question....
whats gonna be better? the 2.5 spacer or the 1" bl.
does the spacer lift raise any problems i should know about?
body lifting a toyota seems to be a headache compared to a jeep and i dont like way over crowded wheel wells as you can see on my wrangler.

so 2.5" spacer lift?
do i get the diff drop with it or is it over rated?

welcome to yotatech.... i would go with a coil lift my self i think the ride quality would be better

A diff. drop reduces the CV angles. The CV's tend to bust with increased angles and power. I'd suggest it personally.

Being that it's relatively cheap and easy to do, IMHO, it's WELL worth the peace of mind to know you're not over-extending your CV's.

one thing I suggest is staying away from a spacer lift, not that they are bad but since our 01 and 02 runners sit the lowest, 2.5 inchs wont do much for clearance. Id go with tundra coils or OME coils up front and OME coils in the rear for an even lift. good 3.5 inchs from stock 02 height. 1 or 2 inch BL will be fine.. you could even do a 2 inch bodylift only if all you want to do is clear the 285s.

I have said spacer lift. Wheeling is no problem as I tend to stay on trails rated 3.5 or less. I'm runnin 265/75 MTs they are bigger than AT's and I had to do some beating and trimming to get rid of the rub. It still rubs a little when stuffed while turning. The spacers on stock springs don't seem to stress the CV angle but a diff drop isn't a bad idea. I did have to re-clamp my CV boots, as they started leaking. Thats the only bad thing so far.

alright how about this...what fits stock? KyleT and Soiledgreen98 have 2 different opinions or 2 different tires that vary a good bit. if it is a 265/75 a/t that will i will satified enough.

265/75/16 will fit on your stock runner.

265/75s will rub a tad on the fender flares --- nothing a little cutting won't take care of. But go for a set of coils all around - I would say tundras up front with ome's in back or a full set of ome's or 99 springs - the 02 is just too low without them. 265/75s stuff the wheel well pretty good - it just looks right with 1-2".

ditto last 2 posts. But Mud Terrains are a little bigger that's why I had to do the spacers. I want new springs and shocks but $140.00 vs $800.00 +/- I've already spent too much this year. But I've been a pretty good boy. :xmas3:

you could easily try some 99 4wd coils with your spacers
i bet another 140 can get them all at one time without a issue and that would give you about another inch or inch and a half

265/75/16 Pirelli Scorpions rubbed on mine so I got a 1" Roger Brown body lift. That solved the problem for me.

does ome have a heavy duty coil spring that i could replace the factory springs with that would net a 1-1.5" lift?

if so where could i purchase them. i havent found a mailorder site that sells them individually.

talk to the toyota dealers on this site. they seem to be really helpful. i think toyotaparts4u.com is one of them. im sure htey will chime in here soon.
