lc engineering header?

well i think my old manifold finally cracked so im thinking of upgrading to an lc engineering header and having a 2 1/4" exhaust fabbed up. does anyone have any horror stories regarding these headers or is there a better company than lc that makes headers? this will be going on a 85 toyota 4runner with a 22re. i dont want too big of exhaust because i dont want to lose torque this truck is primarily used for trail use, and i definately dont want it to sound like a big block as i drive it to and from trails. i would definately appreciate opinions thanks

I searched this out on Pirate and the majority of the people there were recommending either LC Engineering or Thorley. I placed an order for my LC headers just yesterday - they should be on their way

Biggest complaint I ran into was leaky gaskets. Someone mentioned double gasketing while another mentioned a copper gasket. I ordered an extra gasket so we'll see how that goes

I've got one on my 22re. Its been on for 5 yr\ears and is just starting to show a bit of wear. The ceramic coating is beginning to rust a bit on the underside, (understandable since I live on a beach) . I think I was one that was talking about double gasketing it. I did that right at the start and have had no leaks at all since. I think its definatley worth it

I'm going to buy the Thorley from Rocky Road http://www.rocky-road.com/thorley.html

How much are the LC Headers BTW?

Also a 2.25" exhaust would work better for a 22RE

Ive been using the LCE header and 2.25 exhaust, cat and muffler for about 3000 miles now without any problems. If the gasket is installed properly and time is taken to clean the mounting surface as needed you wont experiance any leaks.

I was impressed with the power gain and doubly suprised at how quiet this entire system is.I didnt want a loud exhaust and this set up has really impressed me.

The old system (which is now for sale with other stuff, see the classifieds) came off in about 20 minutes. The header was very easy to install and a perfect fit.I had the whole project done inside of an hour and a half.Everything bolted up in the factory location without any modification and without skinned knuckles and swearing.

I had an LC Engineering header on the 93 I used to own. It had the ceramic coating and had NO rust or discoloration after being on for three years. It looked like the pictures above. I don't think anyone makes a better header.

man i knew i could count on my yotatech buddies for opinions thanks guys. i have yet to breakdown the old manifold but i definately have a leak and it's not coming from where the pipe connects to the manifold. i'm kind of broke right now so i dont think i can afford to buy the system. i might just see if maybe the gasket blew and i can just replace that i hope i hope thanks again guys

Check to make sure all the bolts and studs are down tight. I lost a stud and for about a week sounded like a motercycle. I got the stud and nut from toyota for like 4.50 and it worked like a charm. Check it out before you spend any more money.

Maybe one of the guys that now has a header could sell you their exhaust manifold for a few bucks if you need one? I won't be getting my header until my birthday in September.

I have my carb header but it doesnt have the o2 sensor spot, covered up by a plate. I am sure you could use it and just drill a hole for it. Its yours if you pay shipping.

I believe that is part of the emmisions crap.It came right off with the manifold but I had no way to plug the holes where it was so i re installed it.

This header/exhaust was the easiest piece of cake to install and it made a big difference in performance.Im still making changes but anticipate checking fuel mileage in the next week or so.
I was getting 14mpg but then again,I drive like a maniac sometimes!

I think shipping would be around $18-$20 for ground. It would arrive by late august if shipped soon.

Yup same thing happened to me. Take the heat sheild off and make sure all the studs are there. I think this quite a common problem for some reason.
