Landcruiser 80 Rims Question
Hey folks,
I can get my hands on a set of LC80 rims for a good price. Only thing is, they are the ones that use the tapered wheel nuts.
Should I go for these or try to find a set of the ones that use the wheel nut with the washer fitted?
Or does it make any real difference?
Cheers

it won't work without modification. you need two things.
a.) special lugnuts from wheeler's off-road, it's made by Gorilla
CHROME Acorn E/T Ultra Style Conical Lug Nuts: 1.50ea
http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/tacomablackalloys.htm
b.) enlarge the lug holes on the wheels to 5/8" using a 5/8" drill bit and pair of steady hands holding your drill.
i just did this on my wheels, totally done about 1 hour.
the lug nuts are seated by the shoulder of the lug hole, so it won't be a problem even your drill bit is a bit off center. without the modified lug holes, the regular lugnut can only get 5 wraps around the lugbolt, not enough to get the minimum 8 wraps required to be safely operated.
i noticed you re in ireland, so try to find out if there's any Gorilla dealers over there.

These are the 16 x 8 five spoke ones. They used tapered nuts for the first few years then changed to the nuts with the washer.

Ok, the brakes on mine are not uprated. So shouldn't that equal more thread showing?
I don't want to miss this deal for the rims, but I don't want them mounted in an unsafe manner on my truck.
