install of skid plate

hello

I have a 2002 toyota 4runner and installed a OEM skid plate today. I tried every which way to install it and it still is sitting up against the truck and there is no space between the skid plate and the truck like Ive seen in some pictues. Did anyone else run into this problem? If so, what did you do to fix it?

I have a Tacoma skid plate and I was told using the brackets from that and having the '99+ "fatlip" bumper ('96-'98s fit perfectly) that it would sit a bit under and back of the bumper and that's exactly what mine did so a friend made me brackets that expended the plate 3" forward and now it just curls up maybe a 1/4" in front of the lip of the bumper with only a couple centimeters gap and looks very sharp.
