If the pressures sensors are removed from the wheels….
If the pressures sensors are removed from the wheels, will the pressure warning light come on? Has anyone with a 2004 swapped to different wheels and NOT swapped over the pressure sensors?

other than the light and not having the system work, there arent any otehr side effects, it only uses it for the air pressure, not for any other vehicle input... the way most of the sensors work is that they all rotate at the same speed if air pressure is right, if its not, one of them or whatever will rotate slower or faster and detect/trigger the light
you can remove the sensors from the stock wheels and jsut install them into the new wheels

Many thanks for the info. I'll probably leave the sensors in the 17s, since I use them when it's not Winter, or when I'm not doing rig work.
As an after-thought, does anyone have a set of used sensors for sale, or does anyone know the cost of a set of new ones?

ARe you sure there are sensors in the wheels?
The way the systems that I am familiar with work, they use the ABS technology to campare rotation speeds, a low tire would rotate faster and the system would check throttle position and speed and see that there is no acceleration (no wheel spin,) must be a low tire - turn on the check tires light. Makes no sense to put sensors in the wheels when the hardware is already there (with 4 wheel abs) and all that's needed is a few more lines of code in the program.
Just a thought anyway.

Good point, that's why I'm asking questions. I do know that my Corvette has actual RF-type wheel sensors built into the tire stems. Any techs here know the facts?

Most systems from the last couple of years use pressure sensors in the wheels. The gov'ment, in it's infinite wisdom, decided that using the ABS to detect when a wheel turned too slow or fast wasn't good enough. The easiest way to tell is to look at the valve stems. If there are pressure sensors in the wheels, the wheel will have screw in stems.

They're in the valve stem. The light should go out if you remove all the wheels. If you leave the spare, but replace the others, it may stay on. If it stays on with all wheels removed, your dealer should be able to turn it off for you. There are probably a few threads about this here with more definite answers.
