I got 290,000 kms on my 96 4Runner now. It still runs and drives great, feels like a 5 year old truck!!. Take a ride in a Ford or Dodge after 250 000 + KMs, they are falling apart.

I got close to 140k on my 99 and it still runs like a champ. But I know for sure the 3rd gens run for damn near ever but idk close to 400k. Even if you ran full synthetic in it since day one that engine would be pretty warn. If the body is in good condition and you feel like dropping the cash for a new engine, tranasmission, transfercase, Etc. Then I would say get it. But try to talk them down a bit from 4k. try like 2800 cash. Atleast thats what I would pay... As long as it was in good condition.

Hi everyone!
Newbie here -- just purchased my first 4Runner a few weeks ago. 1997 SR5 4x4, Manual, Option pkgs "B" and "#2", 81k miles, Anthracite. One owner, all records, wonderful condition...think I found a gem! Just changed all fluids to synthetic, tires, completed 90k service, timing belt, tensioner, idlers, plugs, wires, thermostat, coolant, camshaft seals, rear axle seals/shoes, etc.
Not that it all needed to be changed but I wanted to get a good baseline being the new owner.
Now, am looking to R/R front brakes/rotors, suspension (going for EMU but don't know what setup I need), some air hoses, and valve cover gaskets are slightly seeping. I also have a few questions about other things but won't post them here.
I'm really enjoying it so far and plan on putting tons of miles on it! [oh, and of course a few mods!]

Looking at Mauser's pic, I have a question: How many digits on that ODO? If we hit a million are we back to zero? (This was common on cars from the 60's and earlier when you reached 100k with the old mechanical odo's.)

Put 20k on mine since November, it's at about 164k at the moment. Bought it in March 2009 with around 130k. All those round trips Fort Worth to Lubbock lol.
