Question how do I get the check engine light off?

Just replaced the air/fuel ratio sensor on my 99 runner (according to the diagnostic, this is why the check engine light came on), but the check engine light is still on...is there a way I can reset it myself?

Disconnect your negative battery cable for 30 sec and it will reset engine light.

Did your truck have the standard O2 sensor up front or that new type air/fuel ratio sensor?

How much did it cost you?

It was the air fuel ratio sensor up front on my truck. Got it from Todd for about $233.

Yeah, I've still got it - not the gasket, though. Email me your address and I'll mail it down.

Gadget, I've also got the "new" o2 sensor that I ordered first (before I figured out it was actually the a/f ratio sensor that I needed).

So, you are saying that you have a brand new O2 sensor that you can't use and the old air/fuel ratio sensor that is no good anymore, right?

I am not far from you and I have to be out running errands the rest of the day. Maybe I could just slide by and pick up the junk one??

What did you have in mind for the good one?

Let me know...

I'm just heading out myself and will be out the rest of the day, but I don't mind popping the old one in the mail for you on Monday. This forum has been so much help lately, the least I could do is fork over a couple of bucks to help out another member. Just email me a shipping address.

As for the O2 sensor, I paid $90 for it, shaved off the grooves on two sides so it would fit into the bung (it still holds perfectly with the "clip" that's on the top of the sensor - I wrapped it once around with electrical tape for added security, but didn't need to - when I thought that I had the "correct" sensor. If you 're in the market for one, this one would still work perfectly for you. Make an offer if you're interested.

Bung? You mean the plug, right?

That also clears up another mystery. Toyota changed the plugs so you can not install the wrong sensor. That is good to know.

The problem is there is no way in telling that the new O2 sensor still works. The ECU send voltage to the new air/fuel ratio sensors on two wires instead of one with the O2 and the new one is a 5 volt system. You might of smoked it.

I really would like to get my hands on that no good air/fuel ratio sensor of yours. If you can mail it, my address is

Upper Marlboro, MD 20773-0094

Thanks!!

Simple probe for resistance and voltage will clear that up quick.
