I have a 2001 Tacoma Double Cab with 75,000 miles on it. I have been getting a check engine light off and on for a few months. Every time it comes on the air condintioner is running on high. It always goes back off in a day or two, the longest it took to go off was about a week. Everytime the check engine light has went off the air conditioner was off. The compressor seems to be working fine but the AC doesn't seem to be working as well as it should. The air coming out is very cool but not really cold air. So long story short, we took it to Autozone today and they got this code for us. Just wondering if anyone could offer any insight to what the problem may be. If it's something we can fix at home or if it's going to be a big job.

That code for toyota comes up as: air-fuel sensor heater circuit response malfunction. Most o2 sensors have a heater in them to bring them up to operating temp faster, this code may have something to do with the o2 sensor or the wiring for it. Not 100% sure, you might want to try researching it online, hope this helps.

Figure if it has 70k+ then changing the sensor is a an intelligent step. They start to degrade anyway about then. The thing is, they don't cure themselves. P1135 means the current through the A/F sensor resistance heater is not what the ECU expects--result of open, short, or just out of range. If it is related to A/C, I am wondering if the electrical drain to the compressor clutch and fan may be pulling down voltage, causing a slightly funky connection to set the code. So if your sensor is relatively young, consider cleaning the connector and doing a resistance check on the heater while you are in there. I have the specs in my FSM at home, but a search on here will get them for you--somebody posted earlier this week. If the resistance check is good, you may have a wiring problem, not a sensor problem.

I'm a new member here, but an an old Toy oyner . . . Learned through these forums, that my 02 runner is in need of a new oxygen sensor for the front of the converter. So instead of waiting to order it online, I bought one at AutoZone. They gave me a Bosch. After some research this evening, I've seen negative remarks about this brand of sensors, though they date back to 2006, so I'm unsure of their quality today. Should I return this model ($180) and wait 3 days for an online order to arrive? I got a 15% discount for buying new plugs (NGK platinums) and new Bosch premium wires with the total purchase. Now I'm wondering. I certainly don't want to have to reinstall this sensor in two years ... Can anyone offer any advise tonight, before I install it this afternoon?
