Headlight "Film" covers
I just replaced my headlight ($$$$$) OUCH!!! So I'm looking at some options for protecting them this winter. I found this product and was wondering what everyone thought about it. http://www.autosportcatalog.com/inde...id=332&cid=105

Sounds like it might work, I may need to try that. I remember last winter my buddy and I were out screwing around in the snow, no school 
, and we were goin down the highway on our way to this wheeling spot here locally and it started to hail lightly, we didn't think anything of it so we kept goin, we were goin about 90+ and all of a sudden we see the left headlight go out and glass fly up over the car...the left headlight shattered to bits.
Sounds like this may prevent that...how much is it? I couldn't see a price on there, it may be useful to get something to cover the bumper lights and corner lenses as well...hopefully it doesn't look weird...
Let me know what you find out about it...if anything more.

the stealership sells them also. Ive seen them being put on a toyota seinna. and I think its available for almost all toyota models ? Its like a thick clear sticker maybe 1/8 of an inch. I might get some for all my lights to but I dont want it to restrict any light. I dont know?

I've got a similar 3M rock guard product on my latest 4Runner for paint and lamp protection. The aftermarket dealer says that if the rock guard doesn't prevent breakage, he'll replace what broke. Can't beat that!
BTW I replaced 3 fogs on my 98 before I wised up.

I have that on the headlights of my 97 with the 99+ lenses in it. It is good stuff. I also have a strip accross the edge of my hood and so far NO chips.
It really does seem to do what it says it does and the nice thing is that you don't know it is there.
There was one problem with it. I had it on the OEM Hella fog light lenses and it burned the protective covering. So, don't use it on the stock type Hella fog lights.

So which version of the rock guards do you have Gadget? It sounds like they are worth while investment seeing as how if they don't work most places will buy you a brand new headlight!

I'm considering the headlight covers before winter really kicks in around here,I did however pony up the extra money for the clear covers for my Hella 550 fogs so the headlight covers would be the smart thing to do.

Over $500 for the fogs;the PIAA dual lights w/marker light can even be had for under $400 a pair. Are their any after market driving/fogs that would fit the stock light location on the '99+?

Yeah the fog lights are CRAZY! That is just the lamp assembly, the full assembly with bracket and they are over $500 a piece. As for others being able to fit, I am not sure on that one.

The dealer prices on the Hella fogs are very high. It is a standard Hella lense and you could shop around for a replacement lense and save a ton.
I know PP is selling basically the same fog light kit for pre 99s that Toyota installed at the ports.

I used Xpel products on my 99.
After driving a lot in WV in winter, my front bumper and valance looked like a pepperpot !
I had themn both replaced and painted after a minor 'off road incident '
and added xpel film from new.
2 years on, not a chip or a scratch on my expensive bumper and valance , almost invisible until you are close.
I have ordered the hood protector.
P.S. They can be a bear to fit on complicated shapes so take your time if you plan on doing it yourself.
