Head bolt size

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I've tried using the search and I've come up with no results.

So I'm in the process of changing a blown head gasket on my 3VZE ('91 4runner) and I'm not sure what size tap to use to clean the threads. Could someone help me out?

Thanks.

you are not supposed to use a tap... unless its an old tap and worn out... i do know that arp has a special block tap jsut for this purpose of new heads on an old block

Ah, so I've been misinformed. What should I use to clean the threads?
