Hello to all of you I am new to this board, I happily owned a charcoal grey 87 4runner SR5 which I loved to death.
Anyhow I sold it about 8 months ago with 360000 on it for 2700. I thought I wanted a car for the MPG but I dont think I can justify spending 10Gs on something that just drives down asphault highways, I must have another yota 4x4 Anyhow im looking at buying a yota Truck single or extended cab with the 95-00 bodystyle anything I can get my hands on!! some things Im trying to avoid are automatics (personal pref) I tend to lean towards the 2.7 4cyl manuals but Ive heard good things about the 3.4s
I like the extended cab for space but the standard cabs are cheaper and have a shorter wheelbase which would be better for wheelin.
how do the 3.4 and 2.7 stand against each other?
Any insight would be greatly appriciated,
PS this truck will be my Daily driver and used for off road, Im planning on between 4- 6 inches of lift depending on my money sitch after I buy the truck.

The extra power on the V6 is nice, but with the 4 banger you do get a lighter, easier to work on truck that is a lot easier on the wallet (gas and maintenance). Power-wise, I don't think you'd notice a huge difference between the short cab with a 2.7 and the extended cab with a 3.4. I think the extended cab with a 4 cylinder would feel a bit underpowered.

imo i'd go with the 3.4....sometimes i even feel like thats underpowered .... good luck with what ever you get...with 360k miles toyota should give you a discount on a new vehicle...hope your new yota treats you as well!!

personally i would go with the V6. As for the extra cab thing, theres not much extra space to sit other people but its still nice to have some room to put tools and other supplies

I would get the V6...I have both a 4 cylinder and the 6 and boy the 3.4 is fun to drive.

Get an extra-cab, 3.4L V6, with manual hubs! The tacos with manual hubs are more base models, and only came on 2001-older tacos I believe.

Cool thanks a lot on the input, I think Im going to shoot for an extended cab with a v6 Just sat in a standard cab And I dont like not being able to lay my seat back so Ima Go to the Auction in Portland And see what I can pickup.
