what about some warn black diamond shocks #788074 they are 14 1/2 compressed and 23 extended. Will these work for my 1999

what's the dampening? they need to be soft dampening. anything harsh like standard bilsteins won't be good.

I'll be curious to see how much lift guys get with the FZJ coils on a vehicle with the additional weight of aftermarket bumpers/tire carriers. When I first put on the 891s I still had my OEM rear bumper. I had almost 3.25" of rear lift until the Rockware was installed. Now I am sitting at about 1.75" of rear lift after a little less than 2 years. Hopefully these will withstand the test of time + heavy loads.

they should hold up well w/ heavy loads since they're front springs w/ the weight of the engine over them. also, they don't call them iron pigs for nothing. not only that, but if you buy used springs, any sagging or "loosening up" should already have happened, so the ride quality and height should be consistent over time.

i got my coils in late last week. i'm hoping to get them on soon and get some good measurements and report back. i'm busy at work this week, so it will probally be a while before they go on.

I should get mine in the mail today or tomorrow. They are front coils from a 93 FZJ80.

mine are too... 93 w/ like 135k on them, so they should be sagged as much as they will ever be...

won't work. they have an "eye" at each end. the 96-02 runners need an eye at the bottom and a stem at the top. the trucks use double-eye shocks, the 4runners don't.

they're only as reliable as the welds...

They work great. well, the welds is only to hold the bolt to the bracket so you don't have to hold the head of the bolt as you tighten the top nut.

Andy - are you concerned about the rear swaybar? What are you planning to do with it?

These coils are so freakin long, it looks like I'll need to use the spring compressor to get them in there.

i haven't done anything w/ them yet. they're still in the trunk of my honda - same place as they were last week. i'm going to shoot for taking a half-day off this friday and put them in then. i'll disconnect the sway bar when installing them. if it won't reconnect, then i'll make some extensions - which i'll probally eventually do anyway.

Yea thats true, they are much longer than my OMEs. I cant imagine what they look like next to the stockers! They dont seem to be wound as tight as the OMEs however.

The reason I havent put them in yet is b/c I havent been free enough to install them, test them out, and then put the OMEs back in. I think the coils might give me too much lift.

Decided to go measure the FZJ80 coils and the stock coils...

My 1993 FZJ80 4x4 coils measure:

Royal Blue/White: 19.00"
Baby Blue/White: 18.75"


My 2000 4Runner 4x4 coils measure:
Blue/White: 15.375"
Blue/White: 15.375"


Compared to stock coils: more than 3.5" longer! And the wire is wound tighter. And the wire is thicker.

yeah, i'm thinking these things will give WAY more than 3", unless they're soft as butter!

You guys need to put away your tape measures and figgerin', and just put them on! Refer to the photos, shown with stock tires, for total lift. It is not radical. Just remember, spring length does not translate to lift. It only approximates it.

I sure hope they are soft. I *MAY* get them in there this week, then I want to get them to the local wheelin spot to test them out.
