Has anyone determined how to do this?

I found mine only work when the ignition is on, at least turned to accessory.

Thanks, I realize that. What I'm looking for is a mod similar to that for the 3rd generation 4Runners, as described here .

Bill,

That's one way. However, if you want to add another 12V full-time outlet, see what I did here:

http://www.4runners.org/articles/12v

I may add another one.

yeah i know it sucks right. Its one of my soon to happen mods. I either want to put 2-3 more in where the current one is located or put a few in the little pop out contanier below the climate controls. Chris

Radio Shack has an adaptor that plugs into the power outlet, and creates three new outlets. Useful when running a GPS, bag phone, and computer. It's removeable and stores in the glovebox. That's the application on my 2003. Works great, but I still need to have it powered when the key is removed.

Perhaps someone with a wiring manual can determine what pins to jumper on the relay socket, and what, if anything, is also energized by the ACC relay. I think I heard an amp pop when I turned the key to ACC with the radio off. If a bunch of other items power up on ACC, I'll re-wire the power outlet to the battery via a fuse.

Please let me know.

Thanks, and best regards,

Bill

Well, I developed a solution.

There is a removeable panel below the glove box. It attaches with one Phillips screw, and pulls straight forward. The 4 wheel drive ECU is mounted to it. Remove the plugs and take it to your work bench.

A portion of it is angled at 45 degrees. I drilled 7/8th inch holes and mounted two flush mount 12 volt outlets. Plenty of room behind the panel to accomodate their depth.

I powered them via a two conductor cable run directly to the battery and fused there.

My application is for a bag phone and PC that sits on the passenger seat when I'm travelling. This works for me, and there is space for more outlets if needed.

A friend of mine just bought a new Rav-4 and it has a full time outlet in the back cargo area. Pretty cool. Do the 4-Runners have this?

I just went out to settle this. I plugged my cell phone into the back power outlet, and it did not charge. It appears that the rear power outlet is not full time.

On the 3rd gens the 12v cargo point is only full-time hot after the mod is performed.
