FM antenna in the window.

I have found at Autozone a converter to go from the antenna cable that is in the back window into the after market radio that I have. I can not use 2 antennas but can use the built in one that is in the window that I wanted to use instead of the other ones any way. Oh yeah and it cost me $6.00

Part number is on the box just plug into radio and into the cable.

what kind of reception do you get with just the glass antenna? Does anyone know of any adapters to run both antennas like factory on an aftermarket system?

I was running the regular power antenna and I am now getting better reception then I got with that but I have not been out a long range yet. Seems to come in pretty clear and it is just FM radio. I just did not want to spend $40+ on a mast antenna that I have been known in the past to break off.

Yes, I am just using the one on the back glass and have cut the power wires for the power antenna.

that looks like a mini plug? if im not mistaken the diversity antenna is also a mini plug? my power antenna is a bigger plug and thats what my head unit takes. did they have a mini plug into bigger plug? does your head unit take both kinds of plugs? i dont think this application would work with my headunit.

No wonder the rear pass window defrost doesn't work

OK. So call me dense. You mean that my 95 Runner has two antennas on it? I have the normal mast antenna and then on the back pass window there are wires that I just assumed were something to do with the rear window defrost. No wonder that window never defrosts. What was the engineering thought process behind this?

im on the band wagon with jmoore. I've been in and out of my 94 and did not know. Possible that you guys are talking about a 3rd gen imo.
:: Just double checked and yes, definitly in the gen 3 isle ::

My original thought was:
My dad has a 95 porsche carrera with built in window antenna. I saw this and thought it would be perfect for my 86 325 BMW with shaved door locks and antenna. but he always told me the reception was not good.

Back on my second gen. i am pretty sure i have followed the antena wire from the head-unit to the mast with no splits. On ur 3rd gen do you have a split that goes to the rear?

That is what is pictured above. Please also note that I no longer run the mast antenna because the power antenna mast on mine is broke. I cut the wires to it and just use the back window one.

I do not know if it works in 2nd gen's, I have a 3rd gen and posted it in the 3rd gen (95.5-2004 Tacomas & 96-2002 4Runners) section of this forum. I believe that most of the 3rd gens have this in the back passenger window. It my be a limited only option I am not sure with what package it came with.

Again I have a 3rd gen and posted in 95.5-2004 Tacomas & 96-2002 4Runners, I have no idea what will work in a 2nd gen.

In mine there where 2 different antenna cables. One was the regular one to the power antenna and one was a smaller plug to the back passenger window. I do not like the power antenna, and it was broken so I wanted a way to use the back window antenna.

As for reception, I am sure it is not as good as a full mast antenna but it works in a city fine and I do not hit it all the time on different things on the trails.

[QUOTE=alteredvision;51127822]That is what is pictured above. Please also note that I no longer run the mast antenna because the power antenna mast on mine is broke. I cut the wires to it and just use the back window one.

I went to autozone and checked out the part number listed on the box and it does not fit my "regular" plug. It fits the mini plug.
I guess what im saying is that your head unit accepts that adapter but my alpine does not. it only accepts the "regular" size plug. I would need a mini into regular to get it to work. Thanks tho.

That is what mine is. It is a mini to regular size antenna adapter. Mine fits a normal size antenna plug on the back of my Kenwood radio.

This is to take the small antenna wire and make it fit into a regular size antenna plug. (not trying to be a smart ass just explaining what it has done for me.)
