find a mechanic or use the dealer?

I have to get my rear end diagnosed and I'm guessing my 99 4Runner Limited is going to need a pinion bearing. I called a "rear end" specialist today and they charge $120hr for labor. I'm thinking for that price, I should use the dealer. What do you think?
Independent shops are few and far between here in Squamish, BC and I'd have to travel about 45min to the nearest dealer. I'm not sure what to do.
The "rear end" specialist quoted me $1100 to replace the pinion bearings.... told me $695 just for the kit plus 6hrs labor.

Its prolly going to be twice that at the dealer...

find a part out to match your specs. Confirm the diagnosis first and foremost.

Scan t4r.org and Ultimate Yota and other forums to find another member who does this type of work.

Any place that does rear ends or transmissions should work.

x2 on NOT using a dealer! They are such a rip off.

stock open diff? I'd just get a new junkyard diff, there pretty cheap.

If you were here i'd help ya throw it in, 30-40 minutes top job.

$1100 is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh

$695 for the kit???? You'd be getting the shaft. You can buy a whole bearing and seal kit for your diff for 150ish from yukon.....................

Around my area it'd cost you about $50 bucks in labor and about $75 in parts.........
