Talking Fender Flare Options?

I've gotten no responses on my other thread, which is cool b/c it was about tires...now that I have 'em on, I've got a question about flares. They stick out a little less than a 1/2" (clicky). Reading title 75 (PA's Vehicle code) it doesn't appear I have to put flares over them, although I must be missing something b/c it would seem logical you would have to. Either way they're throwing rocks off the side (not a big surprise) so I'm thinking I need to get some flares. The Bushwackers are nice, but I was wondering if anyone had any input on other options, possibly that don't stick out as far. I'm thinking I might be able to get the limited flares for a '95, but i think the color might be an issue. Any help much appreciated.

Talking Flares

I just recently purchased (2) sets of flares, a set of OEM black matte ones for $75 for my 3rd gen and a set of Bushwacker cut out fender flares for less than $200 for my 1st gen, so there are deals to be found. Flares defininitely save the paint from chips.

I had my limited style flares off once and was looking for a replacement that`s not as wide. The only problem was I couldn`t find one as tall from fender lip to cover the holes in the body. So they went back on. Searching once again. Besides Bushwacker, there is EGR and Xenon.

I have the Bushwackers and they closely resemble the Limited flares but maybe stick out about a 1/4 inch less but unless you really look close you can't really tell. I got my flares for $250 shipped.

You think the Wackers stick out to far?
Here are mine on my '91.

I paid $240 for the two sets (front & rear) at Central 4WD.

I think they would look good with your rig.

Actually I was just assuming the limited flares stuck out less the Bushwackers. Looks like they're my best option. Thanks all!

PS. Corey, I do like the way yours look. Just wanted to check out other options.

Hey Fly, When I get 32x11.50's at the end of this month, I will also be getting new wheels, but am not sure what BS to run on them? What BS do you have with your wheels? I was thinking 4.0" would be good so I could also clear BJ spacers when I eventually get them, but am still not sure. I will hopefully also be getiing some Bushwackers flairs too!
Thanks

Everyone talking about limited fflares missed that his Runner is a 2nd Gen. The 3rd Gen flares probably don't fit.

You can look at the Bushwackers or the Cutout Bushwackers for Pickups (they don't make them for 4Runners for some reason).

There was another thread about big rig flares that I think has some promise - still awaiting pics though.

Here's my 33x12.5 BFG MT's on 15x8 MT Classic II's with 3.75 BS (or so) and normal Bushwackers. The rear tread is completely under the flare and in the front, the tread sticks out about 1/2-3/4". I'm not lifted obscenely high (rear leveling coils and a 1" BL currently), so I don't think I draw too much attention.

3.75", rubbed a little in the wheel well liner on the front two... a little cutting fixed it right up. I'm hoping to get Ball Joint spacer too sometime soon. They should clear fine with the 32"x11.5's

They do make extension fender flares for a 2nd Gen, but according to price list I have (that i've now dug out and looked at) they really price like around $350 each or so. I think the bushwackers will work well and are reasonably price considering the alternative..

Bushwacker makes a number of different flare products. The Street Flares are barely a lip molding. The Extend a Fender are what is pictured here PIC and in Cory's pic. The Pocket Flares or Cutout style really stick out!

(Of course the second gen flares won't fit the 3rd gens. But you might try ordering the correct ones for 3rd gens...<grin>)
(They probably don't make the Cutouts for later 4Runners because there is nothing you can "cut out" re: the rear doors...)

After giving this much more thought, I realized that the Bushwacker rear flares are designed to go over the stock bumper. I'm sans stock rear bumper. So from has anyone tried the taco extend-a-fender flares on a 95 4runner? I'm wondering if the wheel wells are the same shape b/c the taco flares are molded all the way down the quarter panel b/c of their cornerless bumpers. Note: I have a custom bumper that's corners reach about 1.5 inches shy of the tangent line dropping from the wheel well and this might work better...

Also look into 2nd gen. Hilux Surf flares, I think that they have a separate piece that goes on the rear bumper so they would work.

You can just cut the flare straight across at the rear bumper. There's a good shot of this with that Burgundy 2nd Gen with SAS and custom rear bumper from AZ that was for sale a while back.
