Expected performance going from spacer suspension to Toytech Coil overs???

Hello everyone!

Looking for some inputs on what I can expect from installing Toytech Coil overs; I have been running 3" toytech spacers for about 2 years now, and all I can say is that for what they cost, their performance is good. The only problem I have experienced is that the factory struts wont last a long time. And the front suspensions is a little stiff for my preference. So, what can I expect from upgrading to a pair of toytec coil overs? Is it worth it? Can I expect a softer ride? How long will they last before needing service? Thanks in advance for your inputs!!!

I too went from a spacer lift to a coilover. The first thing I noticed is that the ride was not as harsh feeling, probably due to the valving in the new shocks. I went with the ICON stage 1 setup. Did you replace your UCA yet?
Otherwise your upper ball joint is going to max out and will eventually wear out. I'm only basing this on my own experience. IMO, if you're going to be in there changing the shocks, you may as well do the UCA. I went with Chaos tubular arms.

I switched to Toytec coilovers from a 3" spacer lift as well. It all depends on the height setting you have the coilovers at, and the spring weight you select. The higher the ride height, the harsher the ride. Toytec coilovers never need rebuilding. I have 25K miles on mine and they haven't given me a single problem, I love them. Definitely worth the upgrade, even at the highest setting they ride way better than my spacers ever did. Not sure if you have oversized tires or not, but if you do you will need either aftermarket UCA's as DIHOWARD said or wheel spacers to keep the stock UCA's from hitting the tires. Combine these coilovers with some aftermarket UCA's and your 4runner will ride like a cadillac on rough roads.

Thank you "DIHOWARD" & "stockwell45" for sharing your experiences with coil-overs. Now, Are the aftermarket UCA absolutly needed in order to run coil-overs? or, can I get away with factory? I think I have seen some T4R with coil-overs and factory UCA's. I'm currently running 33x12,5x15 Goodyear Duratrac tires. The only reason I'm considering coil-overs is because the premature failure I'm experiencing with factory struts, that and the stiff ride associated with spacers. Anyway thanks again for your inputs!!!!

The factory uppers will be awful close to wider tires. Aftermarket uppers are a nice addition if you wheel.

Coilovers ride soooo much better than spacers because you are allowing your suspension to perform as it should.
