Exhaust Diameter Question

Tomorrow is the day...or maybe Wednesday, when I will be getting a brand spankin' new muffler. I am shooting for the Magnaflow 18" (24" overall) with a chrome and slanted tip. And heck yes I will be posting sound clips.

So anyways, today I went to get an estimate from a reputable muffler company ($180 all together) and they said something about a bigger tail-pipe (2.50" instead of the original 2.25"). Upside: sounds throatier, Downside: losing low-end power. Fact or fiction? Just wondering, because I don't want to sacrifice no power.

Thanks a lot guys,
Marko

Search on this board, If you are supercharged then 2.5" is ok. If N/A then 2.25" is the best option. Don't let the exhaust guys try to push you around.

I just got it done, all I can say is WOW!

I am a bit afraid it's so loud at the moment, I hope it will tone down overtime, or else I will have to get a 24". I will post pictures soon for you guys to check out, and soundclips too if I can make them.

With the new muffler, I definately notice an improvement in power. Now, when I drive @ 65, I can floor the gas and it won't shift into 2nd, only in 3rd and still pull. I think that's a great improvement over stock. My only worries are that it's still a bit loud, but we'll see how it is after a couple of weeks.

If anyone wants to know, I paid $115 for the Magnaflow Part # 11255, $25 for the tip, and $35 for labor (1 hour). I did it at Babe's & Lightning Muffler Service in San Jose. They did a great job and I recommend them for anyone in the area. Clean welds, very solid work, nothing but good words. I was only there once, but if you go, mention my name (Marko), it can't hurt

Pictures coming up soon!

Hey marko3xl3;

Yeah I think you can go with the 2.5" pipes, and you should not have any problem!!
Because I went with dual 2.25" pipes, and i had no problem with loss of low-end torque!!

Maybe for someone that doesn't drive their truck hard enough; it would be hard to notice the difference!!
