Electrical Issue : No Tail Lights
Just recently I am having an electrical issue in my 2000 4Runner. My tail lights stopped working within the last 10days after installing a stereo. I figure I’ve pinched a wire somewhere, turn signal’s work…reverse lights. Break light’s work. It’s just the running lights that aren’t working when my headlights turn on at night. Also I have checked all the fuses and they all seem fine. I've taken all my door jams off to see if I pinched a wire...but everything looks fine. I called Toyota and they want 110$ an hour to look at it....has anyone had a similar problem? Could it be my ground for the DVD deck? or maybe a bad ground from my amp to the bolt in the back of the truck?? I'm just at a loss...when it first started last night, I noticed I had driver side rear tail lights....turn the truck off......back on....no tail lights....everything works BUT the tail lights.....and just within the last 45min...only my passenger side rear tail light is functioning...and my driver's side isn't....what a nightmare!

I unplugged my door dinger thingy in my 96 taco while I was doing an install. Turns out the tail lights are wired through it. It was located underneath the steering wheel, above the pedals. Since it's in the general area you were working/moving around, I would start looking at it to see if you bump it during the install. Hope it helps.

Honestly the only thing That you have not said you checked is the bulb!
I would say if you have not already to do so! could have surged the bulb and blown it then I would check for continuity in the wire if that does not work.
actually sounds like a bad connection in the wiring so definitely check all plug in connections and continuity check! don't forget dielectric grease!

Yeah it was the bulb's!!! What are the odd's of both bulb filaments going at the same time?? Very strange....guess that's why only the break light's worked.

hey man i did the same thing to my 4runner when i put in my stereo. I thought i had really screwed it up. But you probably should check the fuses. I had two of them blow when i put in my stereo. Hope you can get it fixed.
