EGR Code 71, Check Engine Light

EGR Code 71, Check Engine Light
My check engine light came on this morning on the way to work, and is still on. I pulled the code, and it's 71, which is:
EGR VALVE MALFUNCTION
--EXHAUST GAS TEMPEATURE BELOW SPEC. FOR EGR CONTROL
--EGR SYSTEM
--EGR GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR/CIRCUIT

I did a quick visual of all the connectors, and all looks good.
I disconnected the EGR Temp Sensor, and read the resistance, ~38Kohms.
The EGR Temp Sensor connector is in the middle of the pic:

Could someone do me a favor, and read the resistance on their EGR Temp Sensor, and post the findings?

According to Jay, a Toyota MDT, that happens a lot with those engines when people install headers. There is insufficient flow to the EGR circuit and the CEL trips quite a bit. Just reset the codes and learn to live with it.

Thanks Dr. Z, I'll do that. Honestly, it drives no different.
It's just weird that it didn't happen until after 6,000 miles after I installed the headers.
I have always had a good amount of soot on my exhaust tip, I wonder if this has built up and caused problems with the EGR function. I wonder if there's a way to clean it out, or is replacement the only option....I'll have to ask Dogpile.com about it.
I was gone for a few months for the Iraq thing, but I noticed that when I came back, there weren't any new posts from Jay. All the free advice requests were probably driving him nuts, I'm guessing.

Yeah, that code isn't a real big deal. It happens on my GF's '91 Tercel occasionally as well. What Jay mentioned a while back when we were discussing this was that people came into the dealership because they couldn't pass the smog check because they had that code stored in the ECU. All of the people who had the problem had headers installed on those engines... It is a two trip detection code I believe.
As for it taking a while to show up, that is also normal as it takes some time for that problem to build up after the installation of the headers. The fact that it took yours 6000 miles to occur is more than likely a tribute to the quality of the headers and the installation. NWOR may suck for a lot of things, but one thing people never bitch about is their headers.
Jay has just been involved with work. I haven't spoken to him for a while as I've started a new job and have been really busy myself.

The light hasn't came on since. I'm guessing reseating the connector cleared the problem.
Just to be sure, I took it apart again, and sprayed De-oxit into the connection, it's a cleaner/preservative, and it works great.

anyone still following this thread? I just got my 3.0 rebuilt... 10 miles down the road after getting it back...bam CEL... went back and found a CEL 71 code... shop said it was the EGR valve not opening. but I never had a problem before. the protection tube around the wires on my temp sensor has a big hole in it like it melted or something.... should I replace the sensor???
