it doesnt downshift any sooner with it on(same RPM's actually), only stays in the lower gear longer before shifting up(like most agreed)
i drive over a significant grade 2x daily, so ive had many chances to test it.

the button doesn't make your engine have more power. It merely lets the engine rev higher between shifts and makes the tranny downshift at lighter throttle. I've noticed that it helps in demanding traffic. If I have to speed up really quick to keep someone from cutting me off and my ect button is off, I hit the gas and the transmission doesn't allow a quick extreme downshift. With the button on, in a split second, the tranny releases the current gear, lets the engine rev up and grab a lower gear with the rpms right in the middle of the power band. As for downshifting, I notice the biggest difference while using cruise. While motoring up a hill with ect off, the computer will wait longer for and for a heavier load to build on the tranny to downshift and causes a downshift jolt. With ect on in the same situation the tranny downshifts under a lighter load, readying the engine for more power demand before it starts losing rpms on the climb. If you never press the gas past half way, you probably won't be able to tell if ect is on or off.

I'll just chalk this little attack up to a misunderstanding. You have twisted my words so much I have no reply. If you actually read my first post and the one I was responding to you will see that your correction is totally out of line. But if trying to make me look bad makes you feel better, then so be it.
