driving rav4 4wd in 2nd gear
I mistakenly put the auto transmission in 2nd gear and drove my new 2004 Rav4 4wd for about a half-hour without realizing it. Most of it was on the highway at 60+ and the rest was on regular or hilly roads. What kind of damage have I done to the transmission, is there any way that I can tell without taking it to the dealer for a check-up, or does it have to go to the dealer for service and how much might it cost even though it's under warranty?

I'd be a little more concerned about the engine. At that speed in 2nd gear your engine was at or near redline for a half-hour. Did you notice any stuttering sensation? If so, that's the rev limiter kicking in, doing it's job.Revs like that aren't kind to any normal production engine, let alone a new one.
I'd change the oil and filter, sticking with conventional dino juice if you're under 3K miles. Otherwise consider changing to synthetic.

At any time driving the rav4 did you every say to yourself damn this thing pulls
Other then changing the oil their should be no real damage might even be over kill, once or twice I have drove my truck in 1st gear not realizing to shift out of it after coming down a steep hill in the snow, the revs are usually not that much higher then if in "D", never went more then half a mile at a crawl though.
Im surprised you got passed 60+ and did not realize the high revs, Bobs right when he says you probably ran the engine close to redline, do it again and see where the tach is, if it was at 3 or 4k then so what most of the older cars sit at 3.5 at 60mph plus, you still had 1st and 2nd.
No real damage, remember it's a Toyota people rent them beat on them for 20k+ miles then someone buys the car and it still makes it to 200k+, can't say that about a Ford or Chevy, these cars are built to take mass market abuse and be neglected so regular maintenance and a 1 time mishap won't even effect it.
Put it behind you,
