Does toyota dealer sell remanufactured waterpump?

I happened to come across a few seller in ebay who claims that,

"....now in the US the Toyota dealers only sell it remanufactured, not new, and for $124......"

Is this true?... hard to believe but if this is true...
how about toyota of dallas?
I have ordered many parts from tod for many past years. None of the parts seemed remanufactured... (oem stickers with correct numbers have been attached...)

One more question:

Do we buy the "AISIN" waterpump from ebay (the 40~50bucks ones, which are considerably cheaper than dealer price)? I have always used "OEM T-belt, T-stat, Waterpump". I do not at all want to compromise for such critical enginer cooling/timing components. But if the "Aisin" parts from ebay are trulely identical to OEM..... why not?

Aisin makes them for Toyota.
I wouldn't hesitate to use reman'd parts with a Toyota label, but AFAIK the eBayer is ... incorrect. That would be a polite way to put it. Incorrect.

Aisin builds pumps for Toyota. The ebay Aisin pump IS a toyota pump, with the Toyota name ground off and a sticker put over it.

However, the ebay guy is wrong. They are not reman pumps. They are 100% new.

If a Toyota part is remaned, it will have a -84 at the end of the part number.

that's true, the 5vzfe is a remanufactured water pump with a -84 at the end, I work at a Toyota Dealer

And yes you can get a Aisin water pump for about 50$ at any auto parts, and it is the same part(without Toyota written), but the aisin auto parts one is a new one...

Thanks all for your inputs.

Now, I feel like I am challanged not to order the parts from TOD. I may try non-oem "Stamped" waterpump for the first time in my whole history of car maintenance... should I feel guilty? ^^; it is hard to resist to pay less for newer product compared to reman part... In other words, I can not justify myself to pay more only to get "toyota" stamp (even on non-new part...) Am I on the right track?

Can I also assume that many of the members are also purchasing "Aisin waterpump" than reman toyota one.... Am I right?

a reman pump, alternator, or starter, obtained from a dealer is probably
gonna be better than a new one. all that is retained is the hard metal casing,
(in electrics, the core windings) everything else is new

so, reman OEM doesn't mean 'less quality' one bit.

what does mean less quality, is stuff that doesn't have a toyota sticker on it.
you cannot trust stuff that just 'fits' but is made by someone else.

When I did my belt and punp etc, around here the pump was $110 AT LOACAL AUTOPARTS AND THE DEALER WAS $118.00 OEM.. I went with OEM for the extra $8.00

To be blunt, that's elitist banter.

Aisin makes the water pump along with a lot of other parts like master brake cylinders and what not. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to find any car manufacturer that makes every part of the car. They send the design to Aisin and they make it. So whether it has the Toyota stamp or not, as long as its made by Aisin its the same exact part.

I personally would rather pay less for a new part than the same exact part remanufactured.

umm, no it isn't

parts like rubber seals can be made over 100 ways in 60 different formulations,


a water pump for a toyota of a specific model and type and year, is going to specify a certain type of seal with
specific characteristics.

so roll the dice.....I will go with oem

As mentioned, part for part OEM and the OEM manufacturer sold elsewhere are exactly the same part. No dice involved. Aisin = Aisin, Koyo = Koyo, NSK = NSK, Denso = Denso, and so forth. Toyota label or not. You do have the feel-good advantage of supporting Toyota's sometimes inefficient supply chain however, if you insist on Toyota labeled Aisin parts.


If you are talking AutoZone hydraulics, well, that is a different matter entirely.

Considering the manufacture's brand that rockauto is offering, I wouldn't feel that much guilty(?) even if I use such aftermarket parts to my 97 4runner.... (saving $100...). Only concerns are "Kuzeh Thermostat", "ACT Tranny filter (never heard of)" and "OE replacement Idler pulley" (I am not sure what that OE replacement mean.....)

Any other thoughts?

I would go with NGK plugs and OEM t-stat for peace of mind. A crucial component like the t-stat I would only purchase as OEM considering a t-stat has absolutely zero room for error.
