Unhappy Difference between 4Runner sport and regular 4Runner 1996

This is my first time in a Toyota forum so please excuse any dume questions or comments.

I have a 1996 Toyota 4Runner Sport and I was wondering what the main differences are to the regular 4Runner.

Don't think they had a Sport model in '96. Check J.A.'s page which has the best info around.

Yea... I've got a 96 SR5. To my knowledge there was no "sport" edition for the 96 model year. Though I guess it's possible that the sport edition could be the non-SR5 non-Limited model.

Not sure about 1996 specifically, but there was a Sport package option offered on the 3rd Gens prior to 1999. Those such optioned came with black (greyish) bumpers and the black plastic unpainted textured fender flares.

Ok, I checked my own history page in detail and here is what I found...

1998
Sport Package Includes;

-P265/70R 16 tires
-16-inch aluminum alloy wheels with cap
- large wheel arch molding
- 13-inch brakes
- 4.100 rear differential ratio
- black out sport trim
- black front and rear bumpers
- black radiator grille
- sport seat with hi-fabric
- sport seat material
- fender flares
- four-way adjustable headrests
- cloth door trim
- leather shift knob
- cruise control
- leather steering wheel

They also offere the sport package with a 4.30 locking rear diff

Anyone know if this was offered in 1996 or 1997???

When my dad bought his 1996 4-Runner it had a "sport" package on the window sticker. It consisted of
-sport cloth seats
-leather wrapped steering wheel
-leather wrapped shift knob (5-speed)
-maybe the rear heater (not sure)
it was just an interior upgrade

Maybe they changed it for the 1998, because my dad's doesn't have black bumpers/grille and it has the silver wheel moldings..

Maybe the package I am thinking of is called "sport seat package"

I will have to see if I can find his old window sticker

Yeah sounds like the Sport Seat Package, which in 1998 included;

- Includes sport seat with hi-fabric sport seat material
- four-way adjustable headrests
- cloth door trim
- leather shift knob
- cruise control
- leather steering wheel cover

Difference between 4Runner sport and regular 4Runner 1996

SLC Punk is correct I guess, it must be refering to the interier sport package, I was just concerned because my 4Runner appears to be a little shorter that the other 4Runners of the same year.

Sorry to bump this old post but it doesn't look like this question was ever answered....A definate rarity on this board. And I thought "we cannot have that". So yes, the sport refers to the sport package which WAS offed on '96 4runners as I have one. I also have the original window sticker. So, the sport package included:

16"x7" alloys
P265/70 tires
Black Sport Trim-FR & RR Bumper/Grille
Fender Flares
Front Sport Seats
Cruise Control
12.5" Front disc brakes
4.100 Rear Diff
Chrome Wheel Arch Molding
Leather Covered Shift Knob(which I didn't get for some reason...well, no big loss)
Leather Covered Steering wheel
