I was reading teh sticker on my door panel and in my owners manual about the diff lock. I dont have the button where its supposed to be. Should I assume that this was an option that you had to have installed at the dealer.

It was a factory option. If your vehicle is equipped w/ a locker, then the button will be to the left of the steering wheel on the dash.

Yes, it was an option. No switch, no locker (unless someone pulled the switch and left the rest in place).

yup thats what i thought. no button...weird though because it came with every other option you could think of.

I swapped an e-locked axle into my 4Runner and wired everything up. Not that hard if you have the tools and know-how. I had to change the front diff too because the ratio was 4.10 to 4.30 (donor rig).

If it is something you really need, it is a great mod. I just bought a donor rig, swapped the front and rear axles assemblies on both, and then sold the donor rig with no locker and 4.10's for $300 more than I bought it for. Not a bad deal. Most people don't do it that way. They usually just find a wrecked 4Runner at a yard and snag the diff and wiring.

If it is something you want to do, try a search and you will find some threads on it.

Just don't do it in a 110 degree garage like I did.

You can climb under yoru truck and see if it's there. You can look up pictures online, but it's pretty obvious when you have it. Just look on your Rear Diff. to see if there's a big mechanical looking protrusion. If it's there than your jsut missing the switch (which is wierd).
