crank case vent hose

Have a 97 4runner. I noticed some oil dripping onto the trans guard when I removed it while changing oil this weekend. The truck has 102,000 miles on it. I traced this, i believe, back to a hose attached to the driver side inner fender well. It seemed to be connected to the crack case with the other end of the hose having a metal cap on it - vent?

Should I be worried about this... have never seen this happen prior. Have also checked the PCV and was fine ( the valve is freely to open and close ). The engine oil level is always on full - upper dot.

TIA,
George

Is your 4runner a 4wd model? Might be the front diff breather?

Kevin444,
yes, its a 4wd. and you may be right. did not notice this leak on prior oil change... however, I did use the 4wd in the past 2 months (since last oil change) - nice snow storms in the Northeast. :-)

could the front differencial be over filled? it was changed by the stealers last year.

will look deeper into this.
George
