I too had a problem with Carfax. I bought a 1998 VW GTI VR6 from a dealer new in 1998. Traded it in in 2000 with 18,500 miles on it (my work at the time was 2 miles from my house). The dealer didn't check the carfax, but the new buyer did. It said that when I brought it in for an emissions test in 1999 the car had 27,000 miles on it. Well, it seems like the moron working the CT emissions center wrote the milage down wrong at the time (and trust me, the people that worked there were pretty shaddy, that's why CT doesn't even have emissions right now). It turned into a big deal between the new buyer and the dealer (although there was little I could do but give my word the milage was correct).

Please tell me you're going to transfer your Stubbs sliders over to the new truck!

I will do everything I can to transfer them over. Looks like Stubbs provides enough length to cut them off and re-install.

A special thanks to Dale (mt goat) for checking out the rig for me. It appears that everything is legit. The tires are the original, and the pedals are not worn. Only mechanical problem is warped front rotors - which my 96 currently has anyway.

Besides a few dings, a needed detail job, and a small scrape it looks like everything is a go.

I am pretty excited. I will be changing everything I can over to the new rig. Heck, I may even change the leather interior over to the new one.

Thanks for the help everyone. I will post more info when I get it.

This is a great thing if it works out.

Two things bother me though. The ?? mileage and the fact that as far as I know, Michelin tires were never supplied from the factory. That means the the tires have been replaced at least once. Not something that you typically do on a truck with only 17K miles...

Good luck on this and I hope it's really a great deal!

In all honesty, I dont know what I am going to do at this point. I am tempted to switch out the wheels to my 96, (I would take the hood, but I dont think the paint is the same as my 96) and make a profit on the 00. But at the same time, I wouldnt mind a vehicle with this low of mileage.

So first things first. I need to go and get it. Then try and figure out what I am going to do from there.

But yes, if I keep the 00, I will change my username for the 2nd time.

If you do decide to keep the '00, make sure to take the 99-02 headlights, corners, grill and hood.

They aren't Michelins they are Goodyear.

Here are the pics I took.
24 pictures
24 more
24 more
4 more
I'd be interested to hear other opinions on the condition of the 4-runner.

As I told Dale on email, most of the “damage” in these pictures appear to be caused by an Auto Car wash. I detailed cars for many years, and we would see this all the time.

I feel better that these are the original tires. I question the rust, but my 96 has some rust in the same places. Funny thing is, my 96 has spent all of it’s life in the Southwest too.

All the glass is original. It looks like the lower valance may have been repainted at some point.

That’s what I got from the pics anyway.

Are you referring to the rust on the muffler and frame?

I wouldn't sweat it too much, its just surface rust..

I will echo the sentiments in the other thread, Dale. That's appreciated that you'd take time out of your day to check into this and come back with the pictures that you did. I know Christian feels much better about things and is grateful. The internet is really something and I can only imagine many of us here would assist others if an opportunity presented itself.

The 4Runner looks to be in pretty good shape from what I can see. Looks like it lives in a nice neighborhood, if that means anything.

I look at it this way: You get a hood scoop for $15,000, and it just happens to come with a 4Runner!

But it looked like you were tempted to keep your '96 hood. I can't imagine! I think you have the evergreen color, and the jade is definitely a different shade of green, which you eluded to previously.

Hope it's a great vehicle for you, Christian! That is some kind of price.

Christian compensated me well for my time, and I wanted to give him his monies worth. I was glad to help too.

As far as the neighborhood that was just the home of the dealer that was selling it. It didn't live there very long I'm sure.

Looking at the pictures it seems fair I suppose... the usual daily usage knicks and stuff. Nothing a godd detail job couldn't smooth out. The rust is about right for the snow and whatnot they get. Aw hell, it makes my 97 Taco look really abused
