So how would I fill this thing up? I have a compressor at home; can I just "transfer" compressed air from that tank to this portable one?

I'm sure there is a way you could fill it up from your home compressor since you can fill it up with an On-board compressor.

Well no,
This is just the piece that gets filled. I'm just now getting into the terminology for air stuff but you would need a plug for one of the holes and you would need some sort of regulator or valve or something on the other side to regulate pressure comming out. Thats if you were going to use it as a power tank of sorts. They have two holes so one can be used for air comming in from the compressor and then if you want to dasiy cain them together like I am (using two) you can use more than one. And then the last one will have a valve or something of somesort. I'm sure someone with a little more air knolege will chime in... I'm going to make a metal box with a door and mount everything under the rear of my rig where the spare tire goes, so I will have plenty of room and then when I get a locker it will be right there. It will also speed up the process of getting a new bumper with tirecarrier! I guess it will just have to live on the rack til then.

You should just change the price in the first post to 24 bucks, since thats what it comes out to after shipping. Either way its still stealing it. I Had on of those priced from central 4WD and they were 89.99 or something like that.

I just edited my post to to tell you where i'm mounting everything. Its what Jayson (wolfpackTLC) did with his FJ80 and thats where I got the diea... I haven't decided if i'm going to put the air hook-up on the inside or on the bumper on the exterior. I'm also going to put some big f'n horns somewhere. I guess they will go in the tjm til I get a winch. I can't wait!

Should be, espcially if you have a good air gun. I'm not 100% sure but if you have a 100% duity cycle compressor then you should definately be in the clear. A Jeep buddy of mine who has everything on his rig said he had a cheap airgun at first and it worked OK, then when get got a good gun it made all the difference in the world. I can't remember how big his tank was so don't take my word for it 100%. Someone that does have a setup please chime in. I got two just incase. I'm probably going to be the only one with OBA down here for a while atleast so when 4-6ppl want to airup I figure two tanks wouldn't hurt.

No it's not a good idea. You need to use it with a compressor.

Autozone 7 gal- 11 gal one is only about 30 bucks.

2 gallons...that's not even enough to fill a 29" tire let alone a 32" or 33" that most everyone runs here.

Really? All the ones I have found online are 2gal and like $70-$80 I don't care either way b/c my compressor will be 100% duity cycle... I'm just trying to get and idea for what to expcet...

All i gotta say is air horns are in the near future for me. I figure for 24 dollars i little air tank onboard will be useful for something, like turn my compressor on early so it can fill the air tank up, so when i air up it wont take as long.

Thanks for the info... I ordered 2 since I have a lot of room under the 87. I guess that I can hardmount my $49 Superflow MV-50 compressor from Schucks to feed the 2 tanks. I was using my 20lb CO2 tank on the Tahuya run, and those 38.5" Swampers sure take a lot of gas! At least I can save the gas for the air tools or reseating beads... oh wait, I have beadlocks.

Yeah... it's not gonna buy you a lot. I run a 1.5ish gallon tank at 150psi mounted behind my bumper and it's basically there to serve my horns. When it comes time to air-up, it _helps_ (not fills) with the first tire and that's about it. All the other tires comes straight from the compressor, with the tank basically as a pass-through.

Trying to run an air tool off of this tank would be kinda' fruitless. I've been given a rule-of-thumb of 5CFM at 90psi for an impact wrench. I haven't done the math, but I doubt you'd be able to take off a tire from that tank alone.

When looking at a tank as just a reservoir for a compressor, then you have to look at the compressor itself to see if it can keep up with your air demands. Even the large compressors that I've seen for OBA (e.g., Viair 550C, ExtremeAir) won't drive an air wrench on their own (e.g., the 550c is rated 1.55CFM at 90PSI).

The other thing about this tank are the fittings. It's got a 1/8" NPT and a 1/4" NPT fitting. To be useful, the 1/8" side should be plugged - you won't get enough air out of there to make you happy filling tires. You could drive a set of air horns off of it though.


When comparing tank sizes, keep in mind that 2 gallons of "air" at 150psi isn't anywhere near "2 gallons" of CO2 at 700psi.[/QUOTE]
