Cobra 75 WX ST:

I have both and am debating the merits of the two for a permanent installation. I like the size of the Cobra and the scan function, but I like the Uniden for the RF gain control and better heat disipation. I already have a K-40 antenna permanently mounted to the roof tuned to 1.0-1.3 so that's not an issue.

I have the Cobra 75 and I'm pretty satisfied with it. It's reasonably compact and you can easily stow it away in the center console or the glove. That was one of the main reasons why I bought it. The only thing that I don't like about it is that its definitely built for right handed people!

My brother has the Cobra and has almost talked me into getting it...he said his two favorite features would be the size and the weather channels. He said he has used those on more than 10 trips in the mountains and all that junk...mostly in bad snow storms and stuff.

I am seriously thinking about getting it so he and I can stay in touch while driving and on camping trips and stuff.

When/if you decide to install it lemme know what you think of it!

The Uniden 520 is the same one that Jim (mytruck) has in his rig.

If you need or will ever use the PA or external speaker function, the 520 has it.

You can see Jim's external speaker on his lower console, plus he's got the PA horn under the hood to monitor CB traffic when out of the rig, or to use it to wolf call to the pretty ones when they are walking down the street.

As far as the weather channels, they're not a big selling point for me as I have a dedicated scanner that picks them up much better than the CB will (frequency differences), as well as forestry/police/fire/etc.

I like the way Jim has his installed. Harder for me due to double DIN radio and console in my 01.

Please keep those opinions coming.

I'm also debating between these two as well. I like the PA feature of the uniden but the shorter depth and thus ease of mountability of the Cobra. I believe the Cobra is almost an inch shorter than the uniden. I'm not sure the uniden would go in dash due to this greater depth.

I've heard the same and that's what steered me to the Cobra. Not installed yet, but ready to go in. It is about the same depth (little less) than a head unit.

Brian, I think you may be talking about the Cobra 18? The Cobra 75 is an all-in-the-hand-unit, so there's no depth issues with mounting.

I also have the Cobra 75 and have been very pleased with its performance. I've always thought it would be perfect if it just had a PA feature.

I know this isn't one of your choices, but I like this Uniden model, since it has a PA feature and a front-firing speaker. Its longer than a Cobra 18 unit though, so I bet its pretty hard to get a good fit in a DIN slot.

The uniden that I have I can fit in the ashtray slot since I don't use the ashtray for anything. It will only stick out about an inch due to the radio amp being behind it, adn I can live with that. While I like the size of the Cobra, I do want a PA feature and I miss the RF gain control of the Uniden.

I think I've made up my mind on the CB's, so one of them will be listed for sale some time this week.

I have been using the Uniden 510XL for about 17 years now. Same one, works great, never had a problem with it, and you can get them all day long at BestBuy for around $25-30.

They also fit nicely where your ash tray is.
