carbon build up
Got another question. Today I changed the oil and while pouring the oil , I notice lots (more than I am comfortable with) of carbon build up in the crank case/ vaulves.
Questions:
1. Is this b/c my wife now drives it to work and back.... so less blowing out of carbon?
2. Is it because I reecently (last oil change) swicthed to Mobil 1 synth oil? Does it clean less??
3. PVC vaulve?
After oil change today we took it out and gunned it several times with sustained RPM. NOted less carbon to the area when checked it after our afternoon race.
Is this going to cuase any damage to the enginee??
HOw can this be remedied?
Tod

You can buy carbon cleaner from your Toyota dealership (well, I know mine has it). Only problem is you have to hook it up to the right vacuum line and do it just right so it won't hydrolock your engine. You do it "just right" by letting the vacuum take up a little at a time (I think about a third of the bottle at a time) while revving the engine up
A guy I know did it to his and he said a ton of white smoke will come out of the exhaust while you're doing it. That's normal. I was going to do it to mine but couldn't find the right vacuum tube to use.
Be warned... there was a post a while back about a guy who sucked the whole bottle in at once by hooking it up to the wrong line and blew his engine up.

When I changed over to Mobil synth I noticed the oil was dark within 2000 miles. The same thing happened to my Amigo when switching over to synth. After the 2 oil changes my oil barely got dark after 4000 miles. Tells me that the synth was cleaning all the dino crap out of my engine. Give the synth a chance and after a few oil changes see how it looks.
