Call for help in Denver Colorado

Hey everyone. That time has come that so very few ever see - my toyota actually broke down. Actually it runs great it is just puking oil - about a gallon in the last 150miles. I found the source - the front main seal ( at least the yotota equivalent)
I am driving an 89 4runner with the 3.0l V6. Right now i have it in a nice and warm garage with the radiator, fan, belts and other stuff out of the way. I am kinda stuck because I didnt bring along my haynes manual. I also need to go look get a pully puller I think.
Anyone that has done this thing before that can offer some advice, I would love to hear it, and if anyone that can physically help I am specifically in Aurora near Parker and Arapahoe. If you can really help I can really compensate. I shouldnt do this, but I do not have acess to a computer all the time here so my phone number is five six three - nine four zero - zero three five seven.

Also any good toyota junk yards? my radiator mounts are rusted real bad and while I am here I might as well dig for some other parts. I can not beleive how many 1st gen 4runners and pickups are in this town, its really awesome.

I am allready going to loose my job because I am stuck out here ( I was quiting this week anyway ), however I ought to get back to school next monday.

i'm a bit outside of denver (about 30-45 minute north in longmont). i'm not smart enough to help you, but if you can find your way to boulder (where i work) tomorrow, i can lend you my factory service manual.

as far as junkyards go, yotayard is near downtown denver near the i-25/i-70 interchange. i forget the address, but i believe they have a website (www.yotayard.com).

best way to contact me is email: mikedeskevich at gmail dot com

Hey man if I didn't have to work all week I would love to come help you out. The best reccomendations I can give is the Yota Yard for parts. Their # is 303-292-5078. Sometimes they are a little pricey (it just depends) but I can almost guarantee you they will have what you need.
Also, if you have questions on how to do the work (since you are w/o your Haynes) call they guys at Off Road Solutions, they are a small Toyota specialist shop in Arvada. When I did my water pump and timing belt install they were more than happy to answer all of my questions. Everytime that I talk to them they are very helpful and very nice. Their # is 303-278-6267.
I hope that you see this post and that it is of help to you. Once again I whish I could help out more, but good luck. If you have anymore questions let me know and I will do the best I can to answer them. Good luck again.

Steve

Well I hope you get it all fixed. Also, you are way lucky on the garage. I hear that it is supposed to be cold and snowy for a couple of days, and trust me trying to fix your rig in that kind of weather is miserable.

According to my FSM, the oil pickup bolts to the bottom of the oil pump housing which is what the seal is pressed into. Gotta pull the pan to get at it. You can remove the seal without pulling that housing off the block.
And I quote:
"Using knife, cut off lip of oil seal."
"Using a screwdriver, pry out the oil seal, taking care not to damage crank shaft. Tape the screwdriver tip."
"Apply Multi-purpose grease to new seal lip."
"Using SST (time to improvise) and hammer, tap in new seal until it's surface is flush with the oil pump case edge."
Good luck!

Thanks for the help everyone, Jake exspecially.

I didnt fool around too much today, being thanksgiving and all. However I need drop the front diff to get that oil pan low enough to get the oil pick up out of there. I beleive that it would be good to clean out any sludge that might be in there anyway and do that seal too.

Red 85 - I am right at buckly and arapahoe. I will be working there all day tomorrow if you wana get messy or just point and laugh look at my first post and give me a ring. Also I will be in town untill this truck is running again.

Jake - left you a message on your cell, I managed to forget who your parts guy is. I would like to call early tomorrow to get as much time as possible if they don't have the parts in house/.

sorry to see the problems you are having but this thread shows me not just why I love Toyotas but those who drive them. I love seeing the local Toyota crew coming to help another in need. Props to you all, hope it goes a little smoother.

I live at tower and hampden. I have a fair assortment of tools and stuff too.
try my cell 720 320 five-eight-six-four if there is something I might be able to help with. I'm heading out of town EARLY tomorrow am. (snowboarding) I MIGHT have a tie rod seperator. If not, I should go get one, eh?

Yeah I am 98% sure that the pan will come off with the rod out of the way, I broke a gear puller trying to get it off, and the pickle fork I had wasnt thick enough to make a difference. I thought about taking the idler arms off, but i also broke my good wrench trying to lower the diff sooo.... But good news is leiniesred has the tool we need and a service manual and will be here in about 30min to help me out with that.

Chainlink - I can not imagine a bigger toyota group than here in denver, you can not beleive how many toyotas are around here, it is really crazy.
