Bug deflector...grr
So Today I was at the carwash and when I was going through the jet wash of the dryer my bug deflector lifted up and snapped in half! I was agry to say the least. So after taking what was left of it off the truck I came to realize that whoever had it before me did something wrong. The bug deflector was connected with 2 screws under the hood and then with about 6 peices of velcro. When the deflector was ripped off it took the velcro that was glued to the car with it, along with 6 circles of paint! That was almost the worst part, then I looked along the front edge of the hood to find that the bug guard had been rubbing and there was paint chipped all along the front!
I am thinking that I need to fix the bare metal at least before putting on a new one right? I am looking at bugflector and bugflector 2. Whats the Difference I can't tell from pictures.
Here is the site I'm looking at, seem like good prices?

Some pictures 1-just got back from a wash n wax 2,3,4-Jacked up Hood
Looks like all those posts I made about a little extra money and new offroad lights will have to wait!

The thing I hate is that I pressure washed it by hand so i don't mess up my ride but used the jet dryer because its so much easier...

What should I use to keep these chips from rusting? Will some factory touch up paint be the best bet? I'm thinking maybe rhino lining the hood(just like the shape of the bug guard, anyone do this?)

If you want to buy a used one I'll sell you mine. it's a toyota OEM one and after I got my TJM 4 years ago I never put it back on.
This chips, lightly sand them if there's any rust and then coat them nicely with OEM touch-up paint, that should keep them from rusting.

I had bug deflector on mine when I bought it. It is a 2000 SR5 4X4 with leather and moonroof. It had a smoke bug deflector on it and it had faded to a dull, filmy looking smoke. I just hated it. So I ordered a clear one and had a friend paint the inside of the clear deflector. MyRunner is Silver and now woit the new deflector it looks great with the body color matched deflector. Mine also had some crap from the old one suck as rubber bump protectors. They were weatherde out. I didn't have any paint missing.
Looks like previous owner didn't install correctly. get one that screws to the bottom of your hood. Touch up your nicked paint and then install a clear one that is painted on the inside. It will look very Hot on your White 4Runner and will do a decent job of protecting you front end as well as hiding all your paint nicks on the front. I think painting the bug protector cost $50. Maybe your friend won't be tuff on you painting it. Good luck TJ
