Question Body Lift Questions

I want to buy a 2" BL and put some 33''s on my 1988 pickup. It has 4.88 gears front and back already. I know most people here use Roger Brown's body lifts. I've been browsing his site seeing what I will need to do and there seems to be a lot of "maybe"s and "if"s. For example: the steering rag link might need extended and the metal around the shifter might need modified. I'm wondering if its kinda hit or miss or if no one has problems, or if everyone does have problems. So the real question is:

Are body lifts (relatively) easily installed without any fabrication or major mods?

As usual, more questions come to my mind:

1. Those of you with pickups with body lifts, do you use the bed supports?
2. Do you use the polyurethane bushings or are the old ones good enough?
3. Standard or Heavy Duty?

Thanks, sorry for all the questions.

Hey there, a while back I helped install a 3" body lift on the same year and type vehicle. the kit was from Pro-Comp. From what I remember the cab and the bed all had polyurethane spacers approximately 2 3/4" in diameter and were pretty sturdy. There was also an extension for the steering that just slipped into place and tightened in by 2 allen bolts on either end of the assembly. In the cab the rear portion of the area where the shifter is located had to be trimmed just about 1/2" in order to gain clearance for 2nd and 4th gear. I believe there are shift extensions included with the kits nowadays that adapt to the stock unit (we used a beer tap). The whole process took around 4 1/2 hours with 3 people.

Bed supports are good b/c they help support the bed and keep it from shaking too much when on rough terrain, everything else is ok except for the shifter bindage, mine still wont' engauge into 4wheel high or low b/c the boot or something seems to be keeping it from staying engauged.
