Axle flip?

Anyone do an axle flip. Move the axle to the bottom of the springs to achieve lift?
I have IFS up front. I was thinking about doing the IFS lift up front and do an axle flip out back. It would save me some dough, I think, than buying new springs out back.
Any thoughts on this idea?

Most call it a spring over.

Not sure what rig you have, but you may be surprised to find someone snuck out to your rig and already did it for you.

Hi Livelarg, yes it's possible to do it. If memory serves right it will add about 3-4" of lift in the rear... kits are available.

Maybe I misunderstood Did the 88 Runners come from the factory w/ a springover? Mine didn't, I thought he was talking about flipping the u-bolts over and putting the rear axle under the leaf springs... I am so confused

OK, here we go. All toyota 4x4's had the springs OVER (on top of) the axle. This is called a spring over. All Toyota 2wd trucks had a spring UNDER (underneath the spring). All 84-89 4Runners were 4x4, and all were spring OVER. In 1990 they switched to coils in the rear, so spring over no longer mattered.
If ANYONES 84-89 4Runner has springs UNDER the axle (axle resting on leafs) then it has been done aftermarket and the 4Runner will be lowered. This was NEVER a factory option, and anyone who lowers a 4x4 should be drug into the street and shot.

Not true. All leaf sprung Land Cruisers are spring under... (40s, 45s, 55s, 60s, 62s, and 75s)

EDIT: Damn phone call in the middle of my post
