I have a 2000 4runner Limited with painted bumpers. All of the other postings with this exact same query have been for metal bumpers... anyway, I REALLY do not want to drill into my bumper, because I would like to have the option of taking the lights off if I felt like it (only plan on using the lights during Seattle's dark, wet winters).

I also don't want to add a brush guard or light bar.

Money really isn't the issue...does anybody have any ideas? Like maybe having two very small metal plate that protrude from between the bumper and the grille? Has anybody tried this?

If I was able to make it work, my concern would be that the lights would have to sit really high, and would look funny. Any thoughts?

Or any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Actually, I saw those bars when I was cruising around online...I was thinking something a little bit less noticeable. More like mounting flat metal plates that stick-out from in-between the bumper and the grille, then mount the lights onto them.

I don't know if that even makes sense.
But basically, I'm thinking little metal tabs that come out from below the grille, and the lights could mount onto the tabs.

...I don't know if anybody's tried it, or if it's possible. Or any other options for mounting...

I tried that, but they vibrated VERY badly while driving - even on smooth roads. I had to drill into the bumper. I found some plastic inserts to go into the holes to cover them up when I take them off. I got some touch-up paint from the dealer to paint them with, and you really don't notice them.

I vote for bamachem's method.

I drilled holes in my '91 bumper before I got my ARB bumper.
Very easy to do, and you will have no vibration issue this way.

You can cover the holes easily, and the next owner may not mind if you tell him/her that it's all setup for lights if they want to add a set.

You could use the method I used. Mount them up near the windshield using CB antenna mounts. There are only 3 small holes that need to be drilled to the inside of the fender.

I think it would look cool if you put the 2 rounds on the bumper and mount the 4 mini-square ones on the fender or on the rear view mirrors.

That's it. That's exactly what I had in mind...you don't know who's truck that is, do you? Does he have problems with vibration?

Does anybody else know where I can find mounts like this? Or feedback from anybody else who has tried similar mounts?

I dont think he is on this board or any other, he was at fall colors, and i just happened to get a pick. it didnt seem like he would though, they were quite stout.

Since money isn't an issue (this could be a cheaper wroute, but probably not) I would try going to a metal shop and see what they say. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to fab up two pieces of metal with two maybe three bends and a couple holes in them. That is probably what the guy in the taco did. If they can't hook you up then I would look for a cb antenna mount. firestik.com has a good few to pick from and mike at xtremeoff-road.com will give you the best prices. I personally would go the fab way myself first and then go the plug direction if they can't get you what you want, but its obviously possible if the taco can do it.

Nah. Just put a little RTV sealant between the bracket and the fender to aleviate the contact.
