Addco Rear bar #483

I just wanted to let those few who are interested in better highway ride handling and don't do any off-road driveing, like myself, that I am working with John Calhoun at Addco to re-evaluate the design measurements of the rear bar as compared to the so-called second design to see if there is still a conflict in fitment with the tailpipe flange connection. As I have said before, I love the handling improvement that the front and rear bars make and I highly recommend them, but when the rear bar keeps hitting the flange, that really sucks. I think it would be good if others who are interested in getting these bars would call Addco (800-621-8916) and speak to FARRELL or JOHN CALHOUN, telling him that you are interested in the bars but not if there is a problem with them. BTW, they don't have an '01-'02 4R in their fleet but they know where they can find one.

So what is different about the 2001+ that the rear bar makes contact with the exhaust. Is is because they are lower? As stated before mine does NOT make contact. Either way it is good to hear Addco is listening and working with you. I only have good things to say about them.

J.A -
I too only have good things to say about them. They do care. John is thinking that Toyota may have moved the flange around, blah, blah, blah ..... BUT, I think that what happened is that I got old stock. I wanted a RED bar and the only ones that I know of were produced for Summit ... as YOU know. I have to let John go through the motions since he's the engineer. The worst that can happen is that they just send me the 2nd gen bar, and the best that can happen is that they make an even better design improvement.

Paul,
Actually, that may be the problem. When they changed the design they didn't change the PN, it is still 483. BUT, they were not suppose to be sending out any of the old stock. I think the fact that I and insisted that I wanted it in RED , prompted one of the order picker monkeys to find an old bar.

I will certainly keep ya'all posted on developments.

FYI - mine's still hitting too in the rear. It only happens when you hit a big bump or have passengers in the back. I think it has to do with the TRD Cat-Back Exhaust - I have the original straight through, rear exit pipe. I believe Gadget confirmed this in a previous post and informed me that the solution was to go to a good exhaust shop and have them take 2 inches out of the pipe (in effect moving the exhaust flange) to prevent this from occuring. I haven't gotten around to this yet, but I want to check it out myself first before I do anything of course.
