994rnnr rear bumper damage[woman]
Well last night the wife backed into something in a parking garage downtown Seattle, christmas shopping, she didn't know what it was . A concrete column that shouldn't have been there , I'am guessing, any way , it put a good size dent in the left corner of the rear bumper. As I remember on our 93 I was able to replace the corner of the bumper [ that was before she rolled it on Grants Pass, totalled , no one hurt.] Is the bumper on the 99 similar,I haven't had a chance to really look at it yet. Can I replace the corner piece? How much will a new one cost? OH Well.

The corner piece is replaceable. It is held in place by 4 bolts or so. Retails for around $162.00. Ask for a 15% discount when you buy it and they will most likely give it to you.
Hope this helps.

hey, you can replace just the corner of it. You can do it yourself for abou $200 i believe. I had to replace mine when a friend backed into it in the drive way, along w/ a tailight.

Sounds like the wifey is harsh to your Runners... I am pretty sure the bumper is 3 pieces just like your 2nd Gen was. Welcome to the Forum BTW stick around I think you'll like it!

I banged up my corner piece when I was sliding down a hill (too much mud accumulated on my tires for a small rock climb).
I inquired about the piece (forgot the P/N), but it's around $130 or so (depends who's at the parts counter) for an unpainted rear corner bumper piece.

Thanks for all the replies and info. I'am going to go down to the dealer in the morning and see about getting the piece. I better hurry because she took my truck this morning , she didn't want to drive it with a dented bumper. Thanks Frank.

VF, you have my sympathy... you see, I too am married to a "driving impaired" woman. I'm unsure if this will help you, but I share your pain.
My wife has dented every single vehicle she has owned. I believe
this is hereditary..... her father and brothers are all "driving impared". The wifes dad hit BOTH of their cars in one night in the driveway. Look at your father/mother-in-law.... how do they drive??? IF it IS in the genes, sadly, there is nothing to be done. (except for guys like us to pray for more "stem-cell research"
I bought my wife a '03 Toyota Matrix for our anniversary... she raved and raved about the car, so I surprised her. She drove it for a grand total of 9 days before hitting a curb and wrecking the rim and a 16 in. Z-rated radial. Then, she was incident free for an ASTOUNDING 2,035 mi. At which time she hit a Bob-cat,(the feline, not the ugly mercury car...) and did $860.00 damage.
Can you appreciate how difficult it must have been, to run down an animal that runs 35 mph and can leap 8 feet vertically??
All in a day's work for my pooky.......
Maybe we should start a support group??? Think about it.

Not sure if it's an OEM part or not, but I was fishin' around online for the corner piece for my '95 which rusted through, and I'm going to replace in the spring. Found it for ~$80...
Might be worth doing a search for your 3rd gen, and save yourself some cash.

Heh- My GF has a slightly different take on bumper dings. My 96 Tacoma had a couple of small dings in the rear bumper, then I backed into a hidden tree stump at a friends house a few months ago. My fault, long story. Anyway, that afternoon I bring the truck home and start looking up replacement bumpers. My GF looks at it and says something about it adding character to the truck. I haven't fixed it yet, but that's because I haven't decided on which aftermarket bumper to replace it with.

Well for once I'm glad not to be part of a group here on the forum. My g/f hasn't done anything to my Runner YET(knocking on wood). Maybe that is because she hasn't driven it but 3 times, she says it scares her to be driving something so big(hehe, nice coment, she didn't mean it to be). She drives a 98' Eclipse and for her to drive a lifted Runner, it's a big jump, not to mention she's only 5'2". She recently totaled her car a few night ago, (she's just fine and it wasn't her fault) but her car is GONE. And so know she's actually loong into a bigger vehical/SUV. So we'll see if I can talk her into a Runner, if her budget allows.
Ah well just thought I would share, and try to sympathize with youmeried guys and your accident prone wives. Good luck on your new bumper search.

They are pretty expensive for a piece of sheet metal.
One of mine met a lady driving a BMW325i.
I took it off and layed it in the driveway and took a hammer and dolly to it.
Sent it to a shop for some plastic and paint and it looks like new. Cost me $50 total.
Unless it's really tore up, see what they might charge you to fix it?
Just bring the piece to a place.
Good Luck,
